Paul Harris - yes I remember you. I think we had some classes together. You were and still are a good man. I am now jealous that you are retired, because I am working my BUTT OFF at 47! But I feel good, and thank the Lord that I am able to do it everyday. If only I could find some matching socks in the morning, I might be able to get out of the door before 9!!!

Y'all gotta go check this out. This morning, an alligator was walking down the beach about 5 miles from my house. The state Wildlife and fisheries boys also caught another one today in a bayou at a popular tourist attraction, not far from the house. I hope they stay out of my yard, because my dog will mess with them! And the gators usually win!

I am officially addicted to this site. It is so much fun to check each evening to see who has added a profile. Tim, I remember your shoes and believe it or not a good friend of my son has a similar pair. He is a kid who should have lived in the late 70's or 80's. This past week at a cast part he reminded me of my crazy classmates.

I had some great friends and wish I had kept in touch. It is so easy to get caught up in the day to day and not take the time to catch up with friends. I hope to make it to the reunion. Susie Dickerson Walrond, I will keep pestering you to come. :) I do not think you have lived closed enough for year 10 or 20...this is your time.

Billy....if I were an alligator, I wouldn't be worried about your dog, I'd be worried about your gun! (I think my Mom sent me an article about you after Katrina.....a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do) Hope all is well for you since that disaster. Can't imagine living though something like that. Your posts on this site are a hoot!!!

Anita, I was just thinking of you on our spring break trip to St. Martin last month. Remember the summer of '76 Sing Out tour in Romania and the Black Sea resort? Remember the mud baths?? Remember your sunburn???

All of these postings are jogging my memory!!

Billy,

We gators here and I know what you mean, occasionally they end up in people's pools here. What is even worse, people who live close to water often feed them, which against state law, and then they wonder what happen to fiffee.

Does anyone remember those two days following three snow days that we were out of school and they called them energy days or something like that. I thought that was so funny and still was glad that we didn't have school.
Who are the four people in the picture, I know it was in our yearbook, I think one is Julie Ward, and Tim isn't that you also?

Oh dear Jo, that sunburn was scarey and I cannot believe I tried to sit through the opera with it. That trip holds great memories. I no longer sing, except to my family, but my son has the most beautiful tenor voice.

What a great morning I have had....I have been lost in a sea of memories for the past 3 hours now! And I have loved it!! Betsy, thanks a million times over for the reunion plans and this site. Your time and efforts have not gone unnoticed. CSHS was a great place! I enjoyed HS so much. Paul Harris....how are you cousin!? By God West VA is always a memory. Anita, Jo and Susan--I, too, remember the sunburn after the mudbath at the Black Sea...Sing Out provided some fabulous memories!! What a way to travel to another country. Tim, I remember your great Knight shoes and your shield! You wore them well. Billy Bova...how the heck are you? Do I even recount the times with Mustian at Castle Rock and Hunting Hills swim club? And yes, you and Paul always did like the older girls!! Linda Grubb, thanks, too, for keeping us all contacted. You are a great historian! Now I can relate to the many hours my daughters spend on "Facebook"...chat again and hope to see everyone September 20.

Laura,

I didn't think you remember us cousins. It is great to see you on here. Hope your well. Such memories all this reading brings. Take Care till the next go round.

Laura, your the best! I can also remember those summer swimming pool days, that was awesome good times! Funny how the page turns on us guys, me anyway. When I was young, I liked the older girls. Now, I like THEM ALL! It is good to see so many classmates on here communicating. This is almost like blogging, which I love to do when I have a chance. This aging thing is working on me friends. Got up this morning, cut the grass first thing. Then went with a friend to smack some golf balls at the driving range. Then took a boat ride around the Back Bay. Then took the better-half to the Crawfish Festival at the coliseum. She is hilarious to watch when she eats those things! Now I think I am about ready to pass out on the couch. Maybe if I grab a Red Bull I can come back alive and take in some night life. But it ain't looking promising...........

Oh, and Dorothy Harmon, I had the weedeater going at 8 this morning! But I stuck it back in the garage, I think my trunk is full of junk!

Oh, and Joelyn Maddox, I do own a few firearms, and very thankful I did not have to fire on anyone during Katrina! It was extremely scary for the first couple of weeks after the storm. I found some neighbors bodies in the debris, and there was gunfire in the neighborhood on several nights. Looters, and I think some of them that came into my neighborhood got the short end of the stick. I don't know if I can take another direct hit 6 blocks from the beach again. It is way to stressful. And the alligators better stay out of my yard, because I really love my dog and cat, and the alligator will get the short end of the stick!

Official CSHS website: Take a look around, you might recognize someone. Sports schedules, Band info, Academia, ubiquitous Summer Reading lists, and the Library rules. To me the Library was like entering some kind of Foreign Country. What do you do in a Library, anyway? Too quiet.

Notice CSHS offers a 'Disclaimer' now, We certainly learned a lot from them, maybe they learned a little from us, toom - Ha! With Bostian retired maybe no one is willing to give chase or climb her Shot Tower anymore. 'PARKER!!!'

Oh, Prom is this weekend, hope by now everyone has their reservations at G.D. Graffitis... see you on Cow Hill!

Laura Lemon (Rhodes)

Thanks for the info regarding the CSHS website Brian. Who is the teacher from Oak Grove now at the HS? I did not recognize any names from my days....maybe they are all retired.

Prom weekend--I better gear myself in gear. I could not get reservations at GD Graffiti's so we are headed to Fiji Island restaurant. I heard they don't card there.....(I bet they do nowadays!!)

Thanks Brian, wow, I only recognised Pat Carr, said she had been there 30 years so it must have been her first when we were seniors.
I thought Bobby Hicks was a coach there? I didn't see him in the roster.
Prom, my goodness, I remember my banana yellow shiny dress with about 20 spaghetti straps! It took me 20 minutes with help to get into it cause I kept getting tangled up.
We dined at the Library, then had beer in the limo. After prom party was at my date Matt Moran's house (yes his parents were there) I think Patty Lensch went with Rye Hubbard and there was another couple there but I don't recall who.
We stayed up all night and ate pizza and played cards.
It was fun!

All this talk about prom is making me recall ours. My senior year, I went with Brian Parker. I remember we arrived at my dad's house 5 MINUTES later than my curfew. The consequences were not pleasant. This week-end is my daughter's prom. She is a Junior, and is decorating the "Country Club" on Saturday morning. I will help her, of course. Does anyone else remember the hours we spent as Juniors decorating for the prom? That was hard work, but it was beautiful when we were done.

Sorry aboout my previous message...I must have hit the "wrong button," and away my post went! Any way, Brian and I were 5 minutes late in getting back to my house from the prom, and I was grounded for a week. It was worth being grounded though! I do have such fond memories of school. I have bragged to all my friends about my "old" friends and how well they are doing. God bless you all!!!!!!

Pam Cropper was a great Prom date. I remember how much she loved her Prom gown. It was chiffon and I believe she found it down in Greesnboro. She looked great. (I recall her thinking if it rained at all that night it might ruin her dress) Always sweet. Being a good athlete Pam was a terrific dancer as well - she'll probably be the next to appear on Dancing with the Stars!

Needless to say we practiced dancing to that Saturday Night Fever soundtrack that just came out. Pam was always a good sport, never let on but I think she knew I just wasn't getting the steps down right and I probably knew I wasn't going to get it right either at least before Prom night-but for her sake I kept trying. I felt bad for her because of that too, but Pam, my prom was The Prom!

Earlier in here I read where Todd Stockstill's brother Kurt delivered both of Doug Settles babies. Not too long ago Kurt circumsized my little boy after he was born. At the time it was strange to imagine that the same guy who used to throw spaghetti at me across the lunch table in the cafeteria was also the supposed Doctor c-sizing my little baby at the other end of the hall.

I kept walking back down the hall at Community Hospital to see if my son Charlie was ready, by now maybe you're not too surprised either how nervous I was waiting and waiting for him. First thing I did was check my Son's diaper to make sure Stockstill hadn't stuffed it with spaghetti as some kind of pay back. He hadn't, but for the next 2 weeks every time my Son cried I thought of Kurt again.

Little League Baseball is getting underway now. Umping in my Penn Forest neighborhood I see teams of little 12-year old Boys of Summer running around in the likeness of every Lindquist, Hudson, Reynolds, McDade, Mustian, Higgins, White, Kenley, Anderson, Emory, Rorer, Currie, I ever knew. A lot of fun!

I don't think that there are any teachers left at the school from our days.. Except Mrs. Carr.. Mrs. Dechow recently retired and I believe has cancer. Mrs. Cobble became Dr. Cobble and was an amazing principal at CS. She is currently working out her retirement hours in the county office in Salem. Not alot has changed in 30 years.. Bob Hicks is an asst. coach for the boys basketball team but he is not on staff at CSHS. That is why you can't find him. SO funny... Bob played ball with Clay Lacy and is now coaching Clay Jr. in basketball. We now have graduated to having a second gym!!! And within a week, we should have a brand new electronic sign up and running at the intersection of 419 and Chapparal!!
The Senior lounge that was there in 1976 ( that we never got!!) is now a snack bar for breakfasts mainly. The pep club room is now Ms. Overstreet's science room.
I saw Mrs. Bostian at a football game this past season. Her husband, Bob and her divorced and she was there with her daughter Tina. She was slow in getting along.. But I walked up and spoke. She knew my face, but could not put a name to it. When I told her my name, she was quick to say that I was one of the lucky ones.. That I was at CS during the "good years".. I had to agree!!
I intoduced her to my daughter and when I told her my daughter was going to CS, she had to laugh and say.. "Please be good to the teachers.. They don't have it as lucky as we did back then"....So MAYBE.. we were not as bad as we thought!!!
Mr. Daughtridge, our principal up until 1977, has passed away too. Mr. Life, our principal at graduation was working the the school board office, the last I heard.
There is a good staff there now.. But things now are so different.. I got 2 more years to go!! And my fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!

Prom--Here we go down memory lane. I went with my good friend Greg Currie. I think his mother pressured him to ask me. She hated that I was not going to my senior prom. I remember his baby blue tux. My own son gets a kick out of the colored tuxes you guys wore. Of the three proms I went to it was most fun to go with a friend, and it was a plus that Greg was a pretty good dancer. :) I think I have a picture around here. I will have to look for it.

Thanx Laurie, I am what I am! Great Lord on High, how do all remember all of this stuff? It is good to see that so many of you have great memories of those days and times! Now I must go to bed and pray that in the morning I can find some matching socks, and that i remembered to pick up the dry cleaning last week so that I have some clean shirts! Life is so complicated............ I wish I was 16 again...........

I guess some things you never outgrow! Brian, I laughed when I read your comments about me being worried about the rain ruining my dress. Yesterday, I started worrying about if it is going to rain on my daughter's prom on Saturday! How funny is that! Right now, there is only a 30% chance, and living in Atlanta, I should want it to rain at any time, but......a gal has to look her best for her beau. I did love my white chiffon dress because my Mom bought it for me. It cost $100, which was a fortune back then. I was so proud of it, and my date! I don't remember about practicing to Saturday Night Fever, but I am sure we did. I know I did with Jimmy Richie. He loved to dance, and he should be on "Dancing with the Stars." I wonder what he is doing now. He graduated in '79.

Hey Pam. I remember Jimmie Ritchie was really in to the dancing and doing the DJ thing. I graduated from proms to sorority formals but my daughter's last one was 2 weeks ago. I guess the next thing will be her wedding. Yikes! I still remember those tether ball games we played at the Banks' house the in third grade. Didn't they have a big rope swing too? Anyother Granden Court alum out there?

04/21/08 03:40 PM #80

Jimmy Higgins

Jimmy Ritchie lived at the old Steele farm house on Garst Mill Rd. right where the old silo was located. His father also coached basketball. Here's a little trivia...I believe his father roomed and played basketball with Jerry West at West Virginia University. For non-sports fans, that's Jerry West of the LA Lakers. I didn't know he had moves on the dance-floor but he could play a good game of basketball.
