Carla, yeah I am use to the military ways and getting home is always a challenge. He is stationed right now in Central Baghdad and hasn't even left Iraq yet. They changed it to November 26th. You have to expect the worse with the Army. His station stateside right now is Camp Shelby in Mississipi where he has to go first but his real unit is the Army National Guard in Roanoke. He will make it home before Christmas and that's all I care about.
His company has been good about his job and as you said it's illegal what Advance did. That has never happened to anyone that I know in the military here and we have A LOT of people in San Antonio and surrounding areas in the reserves that get called to active duty. You need to pursue that issue now! They do not have to put him back in the same job position but they do have to give him a job when he returns.

Greg...Matt was NMCB23...he is in the process of moving to COMNAVAIR1086 in Norfolk. He is an officer, and for whatever reason they have to change units every 2-3 years. When he got deployed it was an individual call-up. He did not go with his unit.

Amy WM...did you say you wanted a t-shirt?

11/21/08 09:37 PM #1295

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

My sister works for the Roanoke Visitors Center...the old train station in downtown. She has said I can leave some shirts there to be picked up. Anyone interested in picking one up there? It might be easier than coming to Botetourt for some people. Let me know...I am getting kinda sick of looking at these things.

Susie...I know I'm a little late...but didn't want to forget our girl!! I hope your wonderful friend gets home soon. There is nothing more tear jerking than seeing a member of our military come back through the gates at the airport. I cry like a baby when the dad goes to the school and surprises his son/daughter...beyond words... Susie_happyBirthday Pictures, Images and Photos Stef~ Let's start working on a plan for Friday...whatcha want to do, what time, what can people bring...then we can just go from there as to where we go after that...so you pick a time, and let the rest of the world know where you live...I will be glad to help you get the place ready in any way you need me to. I know where most of the inflatible stuff goes...and the really good stuff, I know it goes to Greg's house for safe keeping. I don't think we will be able to get the cage out of there in time. Maybe Luke at the "LEven" will have some cleaner to get the spots out of your comforter. Check it out. But just let me know... Carla~Are you coming to Stef's? Bring the stuff there...push it like crack! Off to Lynchburg today with the step-daughter...Kohls! Kenzie is at basketball, then a friend's...Johnny is doing inventory alllll day. Counting little copper, pvc, and plumbing crap...but they used to do it the Friday after Tgiving...so that holiday was always a bummer for him. Everybody have a great Saturday!

GT~BT where are you two? Miss both of you!

GT, Kenzie and your Madeline have been comparing how deep in doo doo they have been over grades. I am almost at the point of setting up an appt. with the guidance counselor. Kenzie's dad told me that due to her meningitis over the summer, she may be eligible for what's called an "IEP," or Individualized Education Plan. Where me and the teachers work together because of the impact it could have had on her brain...to make sure she does okay in school.

Has anyone heard of IEP? Is it a good thing? Should I do it? Kenzie has always applied herself at about 75% and made A's and B's...now, she has no desire to do homework..so she isn't. She is also doing very, very poorly in Spanish. Let me know your thougts...

Pretti B.K. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! make it a great day

Carla~ Yes I do want a med. t-shirt!! I haven't forgot.. just crazy busy..little one was out of school yesterday so I took her to the Dr. where they gave her swabs up the nose and mouth to find out that yes America, flu season has officially started!! She has it!
Jolee~ IEP's can be a wonderful thing! The best thing is that you will be kept in the loop alot more and will get more of a "heads up" if grades start going south. It's also tends to keep the teacher more on their toes with your student to make sure she is getting everything she needs. It can't hurt to have one done up and it's not forever. There will come a point when you, the teacher, and Kenzie will reach all of the goals listed on there and agree that the plan is no longer needed. I hope that helps a little??!!??

Jolee...We have an IEP for Mason because he is dyslexic. It allows them to be able to give extra help where it's needed. We have a set of textbooks at home. When he takes sols he can be in a smaller group and he used to be able to mark in the test book rather than fill in bubbles...dyslexics lose their place easy. Remember when I was freaking out about the word study type spelling tests? Where it was way too much multitasking for Mason...I got it fixed through the IEP. Now he takes the test same as everyone else...he just doesn't have to write them in cursive. He can just do the 2 sentences at the bottom in cursive. That is all it took for us to start seeing 100's on spelling again. If Mason writes something and reverses a b/d, but everything else is right they don't count that against him. See...little helpers.
It would be different for older grades...but it gives you the chance to sit down with the teacher and principal and figure out what ideas might help ease things for Kenzie. There are kids getting a LOT more help from IEPs than we are...but for us, a little usually goes a long way. And I agree...it makes the teacher more aware of that student's progress. I think it might be a good idea. We can talk more if you want.

So it's officially Stefanie's the Friday after T-day. Bringing the shirts might be a good idea! Do you have a lot of responses that people are coming? That is the day we put up all our Christmas stuff...if I survive that I will need a drink!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend. Mine was okay. Brianna had the flu on Friday, and the baby had it on Saturday. They are feeling much better even though they still act yucky at times (the baby is still getting sick, but he is acting happier today). Today, I started putting up Christmas decorations since we will be going to Roanoke for Thanksgiving. I wish that I could throw on some holiday music, but then the kids get wild, and I just can't have them acting like that around a bunch of breakables!!!!

Hey everyone, I have been a ghost reader as someone put it....hope everyone is doing well. Let me know if you or someone you know has 2 extra tickets to the Tech/UVA game this Saturday...Lugar and I would like to attend. We went last Saturday...not sure we can show the pictures of the fun though....;-)

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Stefanie Lugar

Oh my gosh!!!! Someone has gotten into Laura Clinebells computer and they are posing as her.

Laura- I will post a pic or 2. It's too bad our photagrapher was drunk and couldn't hold the camera still. Most of them are so blurry. Lucky for you, hu? If you weren't in the pic.s, I would swear you took them.

Kristen W.B.- Thank you so much for the VT tix. We had a great time. We didn't make it to our seats until halftime bc we had too much fun tailgating. Oh and we were tailgating w/ some other VT Fans that taught at Glen Mills Academy (that's where you all live, right?). They now live in Fredricksburg. It was freezing and I did lose a couple toes but I think I will be ready to go again next weekend. We sat w/ your crew and we also made some new best friends before the game was over.....Are you coming out Fri. night? Hope so.

Jolee- Check your email and let's be in touch this week.

Hey everyone,

IEP here in Texas is for the students that qualify for special education. I am assuming by your posts it's the same thing in VA. Teachers must follow what's on their IEP such as shortened assignments, extra time to complete assignments, time to correct assignments, preferential treatment etc. It's a great tool as long as it's used correctly.

Stef and Laura, my guy coming home from Iraq has 2 tickets. I know he has insurance on them in case doesn't make it home. He is in Kuwait right now finally made it out of Iraq and should be leaving for the states Monday night or Tuesday morning our time. He is suppose to call me and when he does I will ask what he is doing with the tickets if he can't go. I will let you know as soon as I know. If you get a chance at other tickets go for it...as I said he has insurance on his because of the military.

I am OFF all week and very excited about it. The kids and teachers need a break. Cleaned house today, laundry and the gym tomorrow, grading a few papers on Tuesday...then it's rest, cook, eat, and rest! Then we go back to school for 3 weeks and then I come home! I can not wait!

Hopefully we can all get together when I am there!

Thanks for the birtday wish Jolee!

Susie- Thanks, that would be great!!! I wish you were here for Thanksgiving! Enjoy your week of relaxation! Hope your man makes it home safely.

Stef --- I am so glad to see that ya'll had such a great time. I remember going to the games and tailgating like crazy. But, as far as it goes for Steve, he HAS to be there before kickoff. I think that Steve might have 2 tickets for this weekends game. I will let you know as soon as I find out something.

Well, it looks like we have been 24 hours without anyone getting sick at our house. I am keeping my fingers crossed that maybe it is over for us! (I know, I know....I just jinxed myself!!!)

Shannon Davis (Nuckolls)

Stef & Laura~Liked your VT game pictures. You had fun I can tell. Laura, you should come down w/ Stefanie in January.

We survived the 13th birthday bash here. I think I counted about 21 articles of clothing left ranging from undergarments to jackets. (Did you know some 12 & 13 yr. olds wear thongs?!) I washed everything & Jordan took it to school today. Lots of stories I could share, you can imagine getting 30 plus girls together for a few hours. Not to mention the 12 or so who spent the night. So a day cooking & getting ready, a day of cleaning after the party, $215 later on food/party supplies, and a family dinner last night at my house for 12, and I am finished-finally!

Hey all, if anyone has any extra money..can someone please buy Stefanie Lugar a hearing aide??? I told her NOT to post that one picture of my legs around a stranger...it was after many cocktails and I knew it would end up on some site. What she forgot to inform yall about was that she asked a group of strangers who had a macked out van (even had track lighting on the floorboard, I mean what more could you want from new friends??) if she could put her long johns on in their van...So, its the two of us that are ALL CLASS ALL THE TIME! haha.
Susi and Kristen, thanks for the email about possible tickets for the uva/tech game.
Hope to see some of you at Ms. Lugar's Friday night. Dont let Stefanie have the camera!

Stef and Laura, ok Tim called me this morning. His sister has the tickets but they are $200 total. Let me know if you want them. I have no idea where the tickets are but assuming they are pretty good considering he wanted to go because he hasn't been home in 18 months. Like I said if you get others, no big deal he has insurance on them. So let me know I can get info on how to get with his sister!

Laura...love the picture and the fun you guys had! About the hearing aide...we are sooooo old so that could be Stef's problem...well maybe not...she probably just ignored you! Don't worry about it...you look awesome and she's just jealous! :) Not sure why cause she looks great too....

Don't be too jealous of my week off....but i can rub it in! Ha!

Trina Schossow (Folden)

Laura - welcome to the forum...don't worry about the pics, you were having a good time and that is all that matters.

Shannon - Certainly glad that you survived the weekend of girls! Please do not tell me those girls are in thongs already, I'm not prepared for that. Lexi told someone yesterday that she was 4, but was going to be 10!

Kristin - Glad to hear that your house seems to be on the mend. I can't imagine having multiple children sick at the same time. My kids hardly ever get sick, must be from their years in daycare.

Susie - I would say all kinds of stuff about you rubbing in your week off...BUT...I leave on Friday for 6 glorious days in Vegas! Okay, maybe not GLORIOUS as we are taking the kids, but my nephews are 17 and 20 and already know that they have babysitting duty on at least two nights we already have planned. Anyway enjoy your week off, and we will definately get together when you are in for Christmas.

Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving, and ya'll have fun at Lugar the Cougar's Adult Film and Gift Shop on Friday!!!

Carla ~ Thanks for calling me out! I just went on to do my monthly ghost reading and saw that you outed me. Thanks!

Hello to everyone.

11/24/08 05:59 PM #1312

Laura Clinebell

Susi--thank you for the compliment on the pictures. That was very sweet of you. If Stefanie wouldnt have wanted to change into her long johns in some stranger's van with floor board track lighting like a movie theater...then we wouldnt have any to share! So, I'm thankful! I cant keep up with all the posts but I do hear through Lugar what is the latest. I'm going to do better though!

Hey everyone....Clinebell-are you still there? Hope everyone is doing well.Pretty ok here. I havnt kept up with the Forum-whats going on for Thanksgiving?anything?

Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Hi All~

Todd~Good to finally hear from my old neighbor from "the block!"

Clinebell~ Glad you are out of the ghost reader closet. Welcome to where all the fun is!! The VT pics are great...hope to see you soon!

Hope to see everyone Friday night...I'll have to sleep all day Friday to be able to stay up past 10pm! But I'm ready to hit it! Can't wait to see everyone!

To all who made comments about the IEP...I really appreciate it. I still have mixed feelings about it and I guess I will just have to get in touch with Kenzie's counselor to get more answers. All of the points about her getting extra time for homework, etc. is right where she is right now. It's not like her brain isn't working anymore...she can still text 4,290,387.6 words per MINUTE...but she does seem to need more time to process the whole homework, test thing. So we'll see.

Susie~Hope to see you soon. Hope your soldier makes it home soon. Post some pics!
