Susie - Thanks for the prayers, and I will keep your dad in mine. Please keep us posted on the results.

As for the 20.5 hour drive...oh my heart goes out to you for that one...dont' know how you do it. John and I made the drive from Homestead AFB (south of Miami) to VA Beach which was around 18 hours non stop (we took turns sleeping in the back seat) to visit my mom and then we would drive to Roanoke to see my dad (another 5 hours) and back to the base. We would do the up on Wednesday back on Sunday trick, twice in two months and I vowed never again would I spend that much time in a car...19 years later I still haven't. But you do what you have to do. Hope you get your house ready for the market and that it goes sooner than later. Glad you had a nice Christmas. Add yes, I talked to Kristen when we met for dinner...she is a rock isn't she ?

Kristen WB~ You think I'm stupid?!?! Our guys ROCK..I KNOW it! And I was so far up Jason England's butt in high school, I never got to really get to know anyone besides Anders and Rusty Hale...who were the only two who would take my phone calls and help me with homework. Jason Loving, Todd, and Greg were the "homeboys from the block." Other than that, it was a done deal. So I will take your superlative with much pride! I LOVE our boys...and their wives, for that matter.

Susie~ I will DEFINITELY keep your dad's health in my prayers. If I can help in any way with information, I will be glad to. I can also go by and check on him if you need me to. I have taken care of and given a lot of chemo to prostate cancer patients. I hope it's not back. The main thing to keep an eye on is bone pain. If it is back and gets going...that is where it can travel to. A new pain in the back, legs, etc., may need to be checked out.

As for Mr. Dyer's granddaughter...I have some strong advice...my daughter went through this 2 years ago at 14...it was suicide watch here in the house. The crying, wouldnt eat, you name it. Finally, I sent her a text message that said this...

"Kenzie, do not ever depend on a BOY for your happiness. You HAVE to be happy with yourself FIRST. Then, if a boy plays into it...okay."

There have been many boy issues since then...if only they didn't come with penises, my world would be better, ya know?

Todd~ I did keep up with RuthAnn Millehan for a long time, at least into my driving years. But then we lost touch. I remember her mom Pearly, could make the best daggone homemade biscuits. They were a crazy family, always fighting and pulling hair. But fun. Her dad, Andrew died a few years back, I saw it in the obits. And as for Randy, he was the youngest...then Ricky, then Jerry who was class of 82 or 83. Randy had no mother figure until his dad married Jackie...so I was it. I remember making up dances in the back yard to Xanadu, Abracadabra, and other 80's music. Where I went, he went. So it was no wonder he had a major meltdown on me when I started dating. It was sad and quite a major ordeal. I JUST got a facebook request from him. I do feel like I scarred him for life with all the stuff we used to do. But look up his photography work. It is stunning. He takes pictures and the digitally adds in this deep, deep color to it. It rocks. Have not seen him in person....

Todd~ You are correct.... I was Mrs. Duane Ellis!! And yes.. the art work really makes me laugh! It didn't then though because I had to do all the class work!! I clearly remember his drawings of Santa, reindeer,elves.... kinda scared me for life!! Where is he now anyway?? :) I thought Suzanne was married to John Rice??? I do remember that class beigh alot of fun!! Good times!

Kristen Witt (Bray)

Troy -- I did notice that you were in an awful lot of pictures. But, I can't blame you. The girls AND guys of our class are definitely the hottest around!!!

So, for everyone else, what other superlative categories can we come up with?!?!??!?! You don't have to name nominees, just categories!

Susie --- I am so sad to hear the news about your dad. But, you know, my dad has been fighting this type of cancer (plus the colon cancer) for 13 years now. If you need to talk, just call me. I know what it is like when your father looks you in the eye and tells you that the cancer is back. Especially since we are both "daddy's little girl". He will definitely be in my prayers! And I hope that your ride back to Texas went better than you trip to Roanoke. You will have to give me the details. As far as being a rock, I appreciate the comment. But, honestly, there is no way that I could have handled this without my faith in God. He is the one who has given me peace. Plus, the enormous amount of support that has been given to me by my close friends, such as yourself. I just wouldn't know what to do without you!!!

Vicky --- when are you going "south"? I will have to see what is going on around here. We figured that we probably wouldn't go back to Roanoke until close to summer. You kinda know the reason why. :) I am going to WCU tomorrow to finalize some paperwork. Do you want me to pick up a class catalog for you? I can put it in the mail by Tuesday if you wish.

Where oh' where has our little Stef gone? Oh' where or where can she be? I looked the website over, and all I found was.....(um, can't come up with anything!)

jolee, you're right! but more like "victorian" porn. suggestive, palpable, just under the surface kind of stuff. stefanie is being theatrical and trying to make up some lost time with me. :-)

Joe J. Hatcher

Greetings Vikings,
First of all, I'd just like to thank you all for the outpouring of love and concern for our family during this time of Dad's homegoing. This has been an exhausting time for us as he spent over 10 weeks at LG hospital in the MICU. I took him to the E-room the Thurs. before Halloween for some bleeding issues that turned out to be his right kidney was cancerous. They took the kidney out on Tues. and everything went fine until two days later his heart went into an arythmia and the Dr's. sent Dad to ICU.
From there, it was weeks of nothing more than I can describe to you as a roller-coaster, good days and not-so-good. On top of all that, Rke. Co. called me for jury duty for Dec. so I thought it best to pack an overnight bag and move back with mom. Fortunately, I only had to show up once and didn't have to serve - - a blessing !
I also feel comforted to have spent a couple hours with Dad the day after Christmas just before he died suddenly around 1:30 that afternoon. This past week has been a whirlwind and it still just seems to be surreal.
It has been enjoyable to drive around the old neighborhood and see familiar sights. The Goode home was just beautiful this Christmas and many homes in North Lakes bring back memories that I'd love to share one day when time permits. Again, I treasure your prayers as I continue to look after Mom and try and get back to somewhat of a routine. Even got a call from Greg Denton the other day wanting to know if there was anything we needed.
Thanks again so much for your prayers and concerns and feel free to give me a call or drop by the old place sometime. Just always remember to hold dear to those family and friendship bonds because we sometimes forget how temporal life can be. Be blessed in 2009 ! Joe

Kristen, heading south on Thursday Jan 29th coming back on Sunday the 1st. You are more than welcome to go with me, bring some kiddies if you want, I have booster seats. I'll be going alone this time so I would enjoy the company.
If you think about a course catalog, yeah, pick one up for me. 2009 is the year for change..anything besides accounting or real estate...been there done that, need new career field..

Amy WM - Good luck girl on kicking that habit :)

Susie --- As far as the 16 year old with the break-up, the only advice that I can offer is this: (and it comes from when we were in HS and when David and I broke up. You know how hard I handled that!)

"A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle".

And, my favorite:

"After every storm comes a beautiful rainbow".

I had a friend who went through a horrible breakup and I wrote those two sayings down for her. Being her creative self, she drew pictures that went with each saying and she gave a copy to me to give to the next person who was going through this type of ordeal. I still have those pictures but they are in my plastic bin in storage....in Roanoke. Or I would dig them out for you to give to her. Maybe if you know of someone who is creatively talented, you could get them to draw a fish on a bike, or a storm passing and the beginning of a rainbow. Just a thought!

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

Todd...You got it! Cindy Elgin is my cousin. Let me know what she did...I may have to share some funny family pics with you...good blackmail material!
Amy WM...Stay strong...you can do this! Think how proud you'll be to conquer it!

Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Joe~ Wow. What a week you have had. I am so sorry about your dad. I'm thinking about you.

Amy WM~ Come to the cancer center with me one 8 hour shift. You will see 18 people sitting in recliners, with IV's in their arms or a central line in their chest, and they are all BEGGING for us nurses and docs to keep them alive...it certainly would make you think about smoking...but it is a tough habit to break and you have my utmost respect for merely TRYING...taking Chantix? I have heard it works...

If anybody wants to do lunch this Wednesday or Thursday, let me know. I went into the new deli at Towers, McAllisters, while I was on a car tour of Roanoke while Kenzie hung out with some friends and it is really nice. We could do that. I know Todd likes chinese...that is where I always see him!

01/04/09 10:40 PM #1656

Amy Wilhelm (McGuirt)

Tried Chantix last time...makes me super sick and gives me CRAZY wacked out dreams!!!
Definately doing this more for my kids than myself.. that may be the only reason it works :) Time will tell..so far no casualities in the house :)

01/04/09 11:27 PM #1657

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

Jolee...I might be up for lunch this week. That's funny about Todd...last time I saw him was at Red Palace!

Stefanie Lugar

Todd-You callin' me a playa? Ha, that's the pot calling the kettle black!!!! Keep it up!

Kristen-I'm here. Just been living in a fantasy world for the past month and now it's time to go back to work.

Susie, Vicky, Joe and Tim-You all are in my prayers!!!

Jolee-Thanks for the FB addiction. OMG!

Troy- Don't you find it odd that you are in every single picture but the ONE taken of our class. What's up with that? I guess some people just love the camera. You are very photogenic too ya know?!

OMG I am so off schedule!!!

01/05/09 12:23 AM #1659

Stefanie Lugar

BTW, I had Sonja Sutphin Campbell post her profile. She is now on!!!!

Joe - It's good to hear from you. I know what a difficult time this has been for your family. Thank you for taking a moment to update us and for the words of wisdom. Let us know if you need anything.

Jolee - Keep us updated on lunch. I might be able to do Friday if you guys go. I've been wanting to try the new Deli but anywhere is fine.

Stef - Is it just me or are you in at least one pic on everyone's profile. Everytime I see someone has updated their profile I go check it out and what do I find....A picture of Stef! You should be getting paid royalties for all of these pics!

Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Ohhhh myyyyy lorrddddd.....I am at work...in my office...about to explode out of the skirt I am wearing that merely 4 weeks ago was loose on me. Somebody shoot me, gut me, and fry me up!! It's good to be back on some schedule though...I am like Stef...I was way off...schedule, that is.

Amy WM~ Go girl, don't give up. Try, try, try.

Greg~ We'll see what the masses say about lunch...it'll be water for me....dammit!

Lugar~ yes, FB is very addictive...but it has been neat catching up with all the '87 Vikings...and the fact that they are requesting me as friends...well, is merely shocking...but it has been great dialogue...

01/05/09 08:50 AM #1662

Todd Selkirk

Carla and Jolee ~ Bite me.....I happen to work there washing dishes for free food. :o) No, actually it's this thing I have for mystery food. Nobody can tell me I'm eating poorly if they don't know exactly what it is I'm eating. Anyways, it tasted like chicken. I'll meet up with you guys if possible. We're filming another commercial on Wednesday so that's the only day I'd be tied up.

Vicky ~ I know 3 weeks seems like a long time but I work off of dog years so you actually got the response back pretty quickly!

Cougar ~ Don't mess with me or I'll post the picture I found of you last week! JG was saying he wanted another one anyway.... :)

Amy WM ~ I think you're right... I had forgotten about Nicole Starkey. I need your address so I can put this North Roanoke Lakers shirt in the mail to you. Just send the money by paypal if you'd like. If you can continue not to inhale I might even cut you a 10% discount or something. I thought about you this weekend when I heard about the new information they have about second hand smoke. Your kids are reason enough. With out being too dramatic here's a little story... My brother graduated NHS class of 84 with his best friend David. David's parents both smoked while David was growing up. David's senior year in college he died from lung cancer. They say he never smoked the first time but the damage was done by his parents. I can't imagine what kind of guilt must be carried by his parents. I'm sure it's going to be hard to quit but I sure do admire you for your efforts!

01/05/09 12:57 PM #1663

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

Todd...David who? I knew some people from that class because I was at Tricia Cavendish's house a lot and knew her oldest brother's buddies.

01/05/09 01:04 PM #1664

Greg Terry

Jolee - Why are you talking about getting naked at work? I though Stef and clinebell were the only ones that did that?

01/05/09 02:05 PM #1665

Amy Wilhelm (McGuirt)

Todd~ That's horrible!! I guess it's good then that I never smoked in the house and in the car...strictly in the garage :)
It is getting easier every day though... I haven't really wanted to kill anyone yet today so that's a positive step :)
