Carla Boyd (McCabe)

On behalf of Mike Goode (and myself) can I just say "HOW 'BOUT THEM HOKIES!"

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

Tim...we had a strange experience like that in my family too. When I was about 9 and my sister was 5, my uncle died. My sister was very close to him and when my parents told her the next morning that he had passed, she said "he was here with me last night". Now, it's not like a 5 year old would think to make that up. I was very close with his wife and I had a couple experiences like that...difference is...I was an adult! I'll tell you sometime...if I put all that on here everyone will think I'm nuts. Of course, I am.

Troy Davis

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the thoughtful words. I know it is hard too. My father died on October 3rd and it was definitely strange and i'm not sure i've really grasped it. I just want to second your sentiments. don't sweat the small stuff.

my warmest regards and sympathies, troy

Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Tim~

What beautiful words you have written that are incredibly heartfelt. Thanks for opening yourself up and sharing that with us. Don't sweat the small stuff is the key...I think Tim McGraw got it right as well when he sings about "Live like you are dying..." That is nothing to brush off.

As our parents age, who we think were invincible, suddenly are vulnerable and fragile. It is a terrorizing thought and one that I worry about on a daily basis with a mom who had 1/3 of her tongue taken off, went through chemo and had to have her head screwed to a radiation table through a mask 42 days in a row...yet still smokes. She is my rock and I cannot imagine my life without her...yet I know it is a reality.

Joe~ So sorry to hear about your dad as well. We are all thinking about you too right now.

Vicky Lakes (Fuller)

Thanks Jolee, I know having a support group will be the best thing for her right now. But at the same time with the shock of everything it's going to take time to sink in.

Tim, thanks for all the words of wisdom. I 've to learn never to doubt what a child tells you they know when it comes to their faith in things.

Greg Terry

Joe and Tim I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Tim thank you for sharing that story with us. I have a five year old that dearly loves his paw paw. I don't think I would even know how to begin to tell him something like that but your words remind us all that God takes care of everything. We will keep you both in our prayers.

Vicky I am so sorry about your neice. I am not in the medical field so I can't help in that regard but as you find out more information please share it if you feel like it. Also, if you hear of any support organizations in need of donations let us know. As I read your post it made me kind of angry. With our children, after a certain amount of time has passed, you start to feel safe that they will grow to be healthy and live full lives. All of the infant and childhood diseases have been avoided and it's on to the small stuff like scrapes and bruises. Then along comes some unexpected disease that we can't prevent no matter how hard we try. It's just not fair. My prayers are with your family.

Kristen Witt (Bray)

Vicky --- I am so sorry about your niece. I can tell you from personal experience, that the websites or local organizations that are headed by parents with children who have or had this disease is the best route to go. Don't get me wrong, doctors are great with information, but parents can give that personal touch, which is often so needed by parents with children who are inflicted with the disease. I will see what I can find out as well. Please know that there are so many people who will be praying for this little girl.

Tim, Joe, and Troy: My heart just breaks for the pain that you are going through (or have gone through). There are so many of us who have already been through the death of a parent, and there is no comparison between which is better or which one is worse. Losing a parent is very difficult. Just know that each of you are in our prayers and will continue to be in our prayers for the weeks, months, and years to come. This forum is a great way of communcating with each other, but if you need to talk to any of us on the side about what you are going through, then just email us individually. We would love to be able to help out any way that we can.

So, I guess to put it out there: I have been through the death of a child (complications from a diaphragmatic hernia) and also a parent who was inflicted with Alzheimers at a young age and died from the complications of this disease. I have a father who has (or still has) prostate and colon cancer. If anyone needs to talk or wants information pertaining to the above situations, then just call me. I would love to help in any way possible.

Now, back to the funnier side of life: Who has an interesting "story" from New Years Eve? As for one of the "grandmas" of the group, I just want to live through someone elses much "younger" body. It was very cold up here for New Years. Matter of fact, I haven't been out of the apartment since Tuesday night. But, I will leave the apartment for a while today. And, yes, I have had a shower, so the stink factor is not an issue!!!!

Todd -- You better save that card, because I bet you a million bucks that Steve would love to receive a card like that from me. Hee~hee. Well, I have to admit that you were a very good husband. And an even better father. I just hate it that things didn't work out. And for some reason, I can't find the pictures from our wedding. I can probably come up with the pictures from Suzanne Holdridge and J.L. Goin's wedding though. (I think that it was the two of them that got married around our wedding date). And since I am thinking about it, wasn't Amy WM in our class too? Amy, who were you married to?

Hi everyone- Its been forever since I've had time to post- I thought I'd be able to catch up over Christmas break, but I've been letting the kids have friends over and such so its been busy. I'd love to go to Raleigh- but I have the kids that weekend, so there goes that. If you all could just change it to this weekend quickly, that would work so much better in my schedule- LOL-

Vicky: Praying for you all. I can't even begin to imagine- that's terrifying and how you even begin to take that in, I have no idea. I'll definitely pray, and if I can talk to a couple of people I know, I will. I'll also look up support groups. I will pray hard, and my prayer will be that its something else.

I am so sorry for those of you who've lost parents. Know that you all are in my prayers-

I also had my little ones during the get together at Stefanie's house- I'm sure you all had a great time. Eventually I'll get to something again. It just seems each time something comes up, I have my babies.

Its not so easy to get a babysitter when you don't have them all the time. Just another perk of a divorce you never wanted, still don't want, and are stuck with. I'm not sure I'll ever be used to it. It stinks and I can't stand it. Oh well- such is life.

I miss you all bunches- I'm so glad to read and see you all are still connecting and having a great time together. That's awesome. Take Care everyone- HUGS!

Oh Jolee- I saw Randy Hogan a couple of years ago. His in-laws live next door to me. He married Killi Messner from our class. They have a little boy- I saw Killi and went to say hello, and then talked to him for a few minutes. I haven't seen them in a while- I think they've been there, but I haven't been able to say hi or anything. They do live here. Or close- I've met more people on Facebook that I haven't seen in forever- its cool. So much better than myspace, which seemed to be a lot of strange people- anyway- Hugs

Thank you Michelle for all the resources. I will pass them onto Kim.

Thank you everyone else for all your support and prayers and emails. It's very comforting to know that you can rely on your friends for anything. When we were asked if we could put the word out to those we knew who may know somebody who knows somebody, etc, I knew exactly where I could go.

Happy New Year to all!!

Michelle - Kili married Jay Hogan, but I think they are brothers...

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

Todd S...don't fret over the shirts...I offered to pay the $ up front, knowing I would have a few extras...just didn't expect so many people to ditch on me. Just know that every time you see me I will probably be wearing a NHS alumni shirt...might be too small or too big...I love hoodie sweatshirts though! It's all good! I appreciate you buying one of the extras!
Any guesses on who my cousin is? She just moved to Fredricksburg...from a VERY small town about 90 minutes from here. That's all the clues you get for now.

Amy Wilhelm (McGuirt)

Carla..did you get a ck from me yet??

01/02/09 07:57 PM #1630

Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Tony and Michelle~ You both are close...but still off. It was Randy, Ricky, and Jerry Hogan who were brothers. They were no relation to Jay Hogan, but Jay and Ricky were friends with Shannon Wilborn and Brian Draugn. Jay is the one who married Kili.

Amy...yep...got the check...went to the post office to mail the shirt today and remembered they close at 4pm now...it was 4:05. It's a comin' girl...and thanks for helping me unload them!

Laura C~ The pics are great...thanks for taking them AND posting them...you are now a photography EXPERT! Just makes me want to get together with everyone again soon.

Just so everyone knows...I have an allergy to alcohol...so my face turns blood red...wish it didnt happen and I wish that explained why my face also looks so "blowed" up!!

01/03/09 09:49 PM #1634

Todd Selkirk

Jolee ~ Which one was Randy? I think Ricky was the older one, right? I'd forgotten all about those guys.It seemed that one of them was always much more willing to play "dress up" with you?!? Greg T and Jason probably remember that, too. Too funny! P.S. You still rock! Do you remember the Millehan's? I wonder what ever happened to them. Didn't one of our neighbors have a little thing for Ruth Ann? Sorry GT these were the people who sold your folks your house. I wish you could have experienced them! Also, I called and left Shawn Metzler a message to call me on Friday. I saw her a year or so ago at a birthday party for a 5 year old. If anyone else sees her tell her to get on here.

Carla ~ Is it Cindy from Tight Squeeze, VA? She's awesome! She's gotten me into some trouble.... Not worth posting, but I'll shoot you an email if it's her.

Kristen ~ I'm researching everything... I believe our current marriages are null & void in the state of VA, as you can't have more than one spouse (who in their right mind would want more than one). Plenty of proof of the wedding but nothing to show that we ever became x's!?!?!? I'll be sure to keep Steve posted.

Amy W ~ Kristen and I have been rehashing our marriage in Family Living....Were you married to Duane or Dennis? For some reason Duane, and his creative artwork, seems to come to mind... Maybe you and Duane and then Dennis and Suzanne?

Lugar ~ Whas up playa? Let me know if anything comes about this week...

01/03/09 10:16 PM #1635

Kristen Witt (Bray)

Todd --- I thought that Dennis was married to Nicole Starkey? Maybe I'm wrong. Do you know that my son went to daycare at the church where we got "married"? Wait a minute, didn't you go to church there and that is why we picked that place? Do you remember the name of our baby? I do! But, I want you to guess first.

Stef --- Your brother looks so much like your dad. He is so good looking. Is he living around here? Have you heard anything from Keith Thrasher? For that fact, has anyone heard from Keith Thrasher?

Laura --- Love the pictures. But, I am wondering, how do you explain why some people have the red "devil" eyes, and others don't? Maybe another spirit coming out of them?

Michelle KM --- Nice to see that you are still posting with us. Try not to go so long between postings. You miss a lot of interesting things. But, I understand. You have 4 kids and a job. Not a whole lot of extra time on your hands. And I am sure that when you do have a spare moment, it is probably spent in the bathtub relaxing or out with other adults for some decent conversation?

Susie --- Girl, I have called you a couple of times without hearing anything from you. I hope that everything is okay. I got your text message on NYE. Please call me sometime!!!!

Vicky --- Still praying for you and your niece. Any luck with finding out what you want to do when you grow up? :)

Vicky Lakes (Fuller)

Alright Todd, if you are on here, then you must have gotten my email reply. Try not to take 3 weeks this time :)

Kristen WB, any word from WCU? I'm working from a new laptop and just installed my email on it and of course don't have your address on this computer can you send it to me? Send it to the same email address you have for me. Did you guys get any of the snow yesterday? Looks like it's going to be a LONG winter :(

Angelo - If you are ghost reading, Sorry about the Falcons today...talk to you again soon.

Laura, thanks for posting the pictures. Everyone looked amazing....like in a time capsule, only better with age.

Kristen Witt (Bray)

Kelly HB --- I love your haircut. It must be nice to be able to look so good with short and long hair. If I cut my hair that short, I would have to change my name to just "Kris". You definitely have it going on girl!!!!

Jolee --- I didn't notice that you had a red face. You look great in those pictures. I wish that I was that photogenic. You have had more pictures taken with our sexy NHS men than anyone else. I think that we need to have a competition here. Or maybe, before the next big get together or reunion, we can have a superlative vote (is that what you call it?) We can just do funny categories --- I have a couple in mind, but I don't want to give off the wrong impression. :)

01/03/09 10:26 PM #1638

Vicky Lakes (Fuller)

Kristen WB - nope, still don't know what I want to do...it's like reliving 1988 all over again, at least then however I had a plan...join the service, travel, meet a guy, get married have kids...so check, check, check, check x4 Now what? Perhaps I need the WCU class registration book to check out what they offer. Then we can go to school together again. I have been there though when I did freelance work for Follett Book Company. Really nice facility.

Kristen WB- btw - I am heading south at the end of the month if you want to hitch a ride :)

Susan Jones (Badger)

Hey everyone, I am back in Texas to some decent weather but still can't shake the cough and congestion. I went from the 10 degree weather to 80 degree weather! Crazy.

I am so sorry that I wasn't able to see everyone. Between my family and Tim's it was so hectic. I ended up with pink eye as I mentioned and had to be careful about it being contagious. It's gone but I still have the crude.

It took us 20.5 hours to get back and we haven't done much but clean and unpack. I can't believe my break is over!

Tim and Joe, know that both of you are in my prayers. I can't begin to imagine your pain but know that you are thought of during this hard time.

Vicky...I am praying for your niece and her family as well. The best person in my opinion to talk to is Kristen. I don't know how she did it but all I can say is she was super strong and has remained that way.

It was so awesome being home for Christmas. I was able to wake up my niece and nephews on Christmas morning and being with family was the best Christmas present ever.

I need to ask all of you for prayers as well for my Dad. He gave me some good news...he has a girlfriend..NO NOT Lugar..he broke up with her she was too wild...but this lady is Kay. She's very sweet and it's so awesome seeing my dad happy.

Then a few days before I left my dad's doctor called him. He had prostate cancer 5 years ago and they told him that his tests came back and the cancer might be back. When I was watching my dad tell me that my heart just fell to my stomach. He has to go on January 20th for a re test. The doctor said it's strange that after 5 years his PSA levels are so high. So if you could all add my dad to your prayers (David Jones) I would greatly appreciate it!

Kristen, I will call you this week. I have been trying to get my house "market" ready so in mid January I can call a realtor.

And all of you that have teenagers..my best friend's daughter..she's 16..her boyfriend broke up with her yesterday and I am running out of things to tell her to try to cheer her up!!! HELP!!! She is so heart broken and I know we all know she was never going to marry this guy..but how do you tell her that???? Hell I should just call Mr. Dyer..it's his grand daughter..he would set this boy straight.

That brings me to another person to add to our wonderful prayer lists...MR. DYER...I saw him over the break and he looks good. He asked me about our class and mentioned Mike Goode. he was very sad about it. Mr Dyer may be having the beginning stages of Dementia. He is starting to show signs and they are running tests. So keep him in your thoughts. Even though it's been years since you may have seen him..trust me he has stories about all of us!!

Well guys..I am going to bed. Lots to do tomorrow before school monday morning!

Happy 2009 to all of you!
