Janice A Finke Hartness

We have lived in Plymouth, MN, for the past eight years within walking distance of Medina Ballroom. Prior to that we lived in Colorado where my husband worked for StorageTek. Even though we enjoyed living there we wanted to retire back in Minnesota where most of our family lives. We have always loved to travel and this year we combined sight-seeing trips with playing bridge. We just returned from Scandinavia and Iceland this month where we played bridge with the local players.
I am very thankful for my wonderful Christian husband of almost 46 years. We have three daughters and four grandchildren ages 13, 10, 6 and 4.

2009:
We have lived in Minnesota, Portugal, Wisconsin and Colorado. Our three daughters are married and we have two granddaughters 8 & 5 and one grandson age one.

We are enjoying retirement. Last fall we celebrated our 40th anniversary in Australia. We have recently returned from a trip to Egypt and Israel.

I remember using the tiny pieces of paper from computer punch cards as confetti at the football games. It got stuck in our hair, eyes and carpet at home. I still have my blue and gold beanie hat I wore to games.

Remember the list of 500 spelling words we needed to memorize in typing class?
Sometimes I still use shorthand that I learned in Miss Studlien’s class. I did visit with her last October when the all school reunion was held.

I lived on Quail Avenue close to the senior high. My neighbors were Janice Merkel Graham, Jerry Hagel, Mary Ackerman Dion, Lee Christiansen, Dave and Don Bownik. Lee, Dave and Don have since passed away. Janice Merkel and I met when we were about seven years old and discovered we not only shared the same name but the same birthdate, August 3. We have stayed in touch all these years and celebrated our 60th birthday together with our husbands on a Caribbean cruise.
