Pat and I were married in 1967 while attending the Univ of Minnesota. I enlisted in the Coast Guard soon after, and went to OCS. During my CG career we were stationed in Seattle; Astoria, OR; New York City; Kodiak, AK; Toledo, OH; and Sault Ste. Marie, MI. However, almost half that time was in Kodiak, which eventually became home. I served 10 years on 6 different CG ships, mostly tasked with maritime frontier surveillance and high seas fishery boardings in the Bering Sea and North Pacific Ocean. I finished my education (B.A. English) at the City College of New York, NYC. Pat obtained a B.S. in Education from the University of Michigan while we were stationed in Toledo. Pat taught at Christian school for a while, and we retired from the Coast Guard in 1997. Then, for the next seven years, we opened and operated our own business in Kodiak, "Norwegian Wood Farm, Feed, & Pets." Since 2005 I have worked part-time as Safety/Security Manager for Matson Navigation Container Shipping LLC in Kodiak. Pat keeps busy with church work and some home-school tutoring. We have loved living in Alaska, and life is good. We usually visit our families in Minnesota every summer.
