Lisa received her undergraduate degrees in Psychology at SUNY Oswego and Physics/Astronomy at Arizona State University. She earned an M.A. in Astronomy from Wesleyan University in 1996.
Lisa met hubby Jim the first weekend of college at SUNY Oswego in August 1985. Jim followed Lisa from Oswego to AZ, to CT, and to MD for work. They were married in 1994 in Rochester, have three children, and currently live in Baltimore.
Lisa was a NASA-contracted, non-PhD astronomer who worked at Space Telescope Science Institute (research institute for the Hubble Space Telescope) in Baltimore from 1996-2016. She was an image processor for the Hubble Heritage Team and the Outreach Office. Doing the Google image search for Hubble Heritage Frattare will show you her work.
During her 20-year tenure, she produced over 300 images for scientific discovery and public outreach. Her imaging work from Hubble has been published in myriad books, magazines, and was used in the 2010 IMAX 3D movie "Hubble 3D" (yes my name is in the credits!).
In the last several years, Lisa has been involved with DoD contracts, cybersecurity, and clearance-level projects. She is a project manager, team lead and business analyst for a government contracted software team. She also does imaging work for the Chandra X-ray Observatory, a sister mission to Hubble.
Lisa loves telescope observing, spending time with the kids, pool volleyball, logic puzzles/math games, and keeping in touch with fellow Cardinals on Facebook.
