Steve and I played Little League baseball together for several years and then played in The Pony League, too. He was a great pitcher with a great fastball and he could clobber the ball, usually would hit a HR every game. One time, we played a game in which I was pitching and he had the record for pitching the most strike-outs in Little League in Rochester at the time with 13, over a 7 inning game. Well, we were playing the worst team in the League and I got lucky - I struck out 14 betters that game, setting a new record, and I also hit a HR while Steve did not. Steve congratulated me on the strikeouts but said he could still hit the ball farther and harder than I could. I did not argue the point - he was right about that. His Dad was a Dentist and one time we had to go to his Dad for an emergency tooth ache becaused our regular Dentist was "too busy" to see us. Steve's Dad was OK, a pretty good Dentist, a quiet kind of guy who did good work. Steve was sharp, funny and a good guy. He died way too young. I wish I could see that beautiful smile he had, once again.
