Steve was my best friend while at McQuaid.  Steve was "one of the good guys".  I never met a person who didn't like Steve.  He went way too young.  Another great loss....

Steve and I were friendly at McQuaid but really got to know each other when we went to Syracuse University. We were roommates until Steve pledged with Sigma Chi fraternity. I remember helping him plan a prank while he was pledging that took just a simple phone call late one night to the fraternity house. Steve told them that there was a brother tied up at the 50 yard line inside Archbold Stadium. Sometime afterwards we heard some angry voices coming from below our dormitory window. We watched as some really upset brothers marched up the sidewalk to our dormitory to confront Steve. We were later told that campus security had intervened as some brothers were climbing the fences to get inside the stadium. It was in great part because of Steve that I joined Sigma Chi the next semester. I also remember how stubborn the two of us were. We would have debates that seemed to never end. Steve and I tended to be on opposing teams during basketball games behind our fraternity house. Steve would usually guard me. Steve was a intense competitor and a great guy. The four years we spent together as roommates and fraternity brothers were four of the best years of our lives. It was shocking news when I heard about Steve's passing at such a young age.

Steve was a wonderful friend.  We were in many classes together, and we hung around together outside of school and throughout our college years.  One thing about Steve that always impressed me was how well rounded he was.  He had a very broad array of interests including school subjects, contemporary social issues, sports and music, particularly jazz.  Steve was the first person to turn me on to jazz and I've been an avid listener ever since; whenever I hear John Coltrane, Miles Davis and others, I often think of Steve.  A truly great guy!
