To all American vets, I am sorry that we, as a nation, have not borne our responsibility as bravely or honorably as you.  I hope that is changing for you stepped up and, thus far, this nation has not.

Please accept my humble personal apologies.

I met Deanna Ratteree Nobles and her husband here at the beach last night for dinner and then we went to Fat Harold's for some shagging.  She and I picked right up where we last left off.  I love this lady and am so grateful for her friendship that has remained strong.  Just moving to Rock Hill in the 9th grade from Houston was a big adjustment, but my high school friends made it so easy to adjust.  I have wonderful friends still from school and think we had a very special class.

ROLL TIDE.....I may not have grown up in Rock Hill but in all our travels as children we lived in some interesting places. Dad worked at the University of Alabama around 1959-1962. We lived down the road from Bear Bryant. He had a chauffer/limosine and when he rolled by we would wave. Trick-r-treated at his house. The butler/chauffer man would answer the door and hand over the candy. Our neighborhood was diverse in that Mr. Bryant's house was the only "rich" house in the area - all the others were middle America.  Of course, I had no idea who that man was at the time. Joe "Willie" Namath was at UA at that time too, I believe. These are my memories. Happy new year to you all!

It is always so much fun to run into classmates that I have not seen for some time.  I so enjoyed last night seeing Darrell McDaniel and his wife Karen here at the beach celebrating the New Year.  Happy New Year to all my classmates.

Thanks for the birthday tribute.   Being a "premie" had its benefits (gifts) for being the New Year's baby.  The original due date was in early February 1948.  Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!!

And jumping back to "The Bear", one of my favorite of his quotes was when he took Kentucky to its 1st bowl game in many years & the basketball team lost early in the NCAA tourny. At the sports award dinner that year, they gave Rupp a new Cadillac & gave him an engraved Zippo to which he said "I'm at the wrong school"

For Ken Hinson - If I didn't know this was someone else's art, I would have thought you did it.  You are an incredible artist, Ken!

I agree with you Jackie, Ken is a pro at what he does. Ken is so versatile, cars to portraits...it is very impressive. We are so glad he is sharing his talent with us. We will be posting his logo soon in '66 Market Place.  Although Dale Kee is not a RHHS classmate, he reflects through his art the cars from the good ole' days. Thanks for sharing Dale's work with us!

Loved looking at the pictures of Savannah GA and Key West Fl.  Two of mine and Billy's favorite places to visit. Been there so many times but always ready to see them again.  Enjoyed the pictures, Jackie.  Thanks.

Hey Ruth, you know what a good time , you can have  at Key West and Savannah . There is alway somethinghh to do, never got bored. Only one thing, I never saw a perfect sunset on the front. The bag piper died a couple of year ago, he can`t be replace. If you saw a perfect sunset, let me know. Barbara and I got married in Key West 1984. Started going to Savannah 1999, it was closer, but we may head to the Keys one more time, glad you like the pictures, your friend, jk

Ruth McAteer (Lockridge)

We did see a sunset.  Everybody on Mallory Square had to wave bye bye to the Sun.  So silly but when you are in Key West you don't really care.  Especially if you just finished a Duvall crawl.

Good deal, all the times we were watching, probably close to a 100, a cloud would sneak up right in middle and knock the sun out, sometimes I probably could `nt  see it anyway, Duval St. had a lot stops on the way down. spent a lot of time in Sloppy Joe`s and others. Good time and fun place to be in the last part of Dec. and Jan., sometime it was close to 85 dergrees. Take care and it`s always good to hear from you, jk

I served my Country and my Family for over 20 years and must disagree with Bill on one thing. My Country owes me no more than what I am getting......the right to live in the greatest Country in the world!!!! For anyone one that doubts for a moment that this is not the case, travel the world for a 1st hand look or easier than that, just watch the evening news. Do I agree with everything that goes on here? NO////but I count by blessings often for the chance to be an American!

03/16/15 10:14 AM #313

Joseph (Joe) Lowery

I totaly agree with Jimmy. I think everyone should go to the different countries just to see how things are. Everything you see on the news is what they (news company) want you to see and dosen't represent what things are like. It is truly a blessing to live here in the United States.

03/16/15 02:15 PM #314

Ruth McAteer (Lockridge)

I got goosebumps reading Jimmy's and Joe's comments.  It truly is a blessing to be an American and to have the priviledge of living in the greatest country in the world.  I come from a long line of veterans who have served in every war this country has ever fought.  I would do them, myself and my country a great injustice not to stand up for what we have here in the United States of America.  The freedoms we have include leaving if you don't like it.

Ruth, I totally agree with YOUR comment about those who deserve to LEAVE IT ! I will personally add my foot in place to help them along on their well-deserved journey out of the land they hate so much.    Ken Hinson

Thank you Joe and Jimmy. I too spent over 24 years serving my country and my family. I have traveled Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa and part of western Asia. The United States of America has offorded me opportunities of service and America has served my family and me. I could never repay the blessings of my country in a single lifetime. Thank God I am still able and have the opportunities of service as a pastor and citizen of the greatest country in the world.
