A few days ago Becky posted that I would be playing at Thursdays' Too in Rock Hill on the Friday night before the reunion.  Unfortunately a conflict developed yesterday, and my gig has been rescheduled for September 16.  I apologize to those of you who may have made plans to come, but Thursdays is still a good place for dinner if you happen to be in town that night.

Oh, my goodness!  Two 1/2 days to go and I can't wait!  I remember years ago my Mom use to dance through the house singing "I'm so excited...and I just can't hide it....I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!!!  She was going to her 50th High School reunion in Palacios, Texas.  I thought to myself then....Oh, my goodness!  50 years...wow, she is really getting old.   Well, here we are facing our 45th reunion and I am so excited and just can't hide it.  It's funny...we all start trying to lose some weight, get fit, learn new dances, find something to wear, go get our hair and nails done,  etc. etc.  I can remember this excitement at both of our proms in the 11th and 12th grade.  You get asked...you wait and wait and wait....you get all dressed up in your prom dress (mine was all like "netting" and blue and it was "big"!!!)and you wait for your date to come pick you up; usually in his parents car...with them driving.  Then, before you know it the night is over; and in my case, your next date might be the next prom a year later..maybe!  My parents were strict and on occasion a trip through the parking lot at Hardee's might be inevitable...even if we had to sneak to do it....Of course, down the road was a Dad who loved me so much, he was somewhere pretty close by to warn me to go home.  They were wonderful parents, just very cautious!!  My high school years were good and the memories go on and on and on.  With this website, I have caught up on so many friends.  It is sad to see where so many have passed away but the memories are still there and always will be.  I am looking forward to seeing all of you this Saturday night.  We are going to have a "BLAST FROM THE PAST"!!!

This site is fabulous!  I have so enjoyed it.  And, have laughed at all the memories it has brought back.  Especially, the lack of AC 45 years ago!!  I certainly couldn't take it now......THANK YOU to everyone responsible for this site!!  See you soon.     Beckie [Rebecca] Littlefield

Thanks Beckie and Karen for your messages. Karen, are you sure we did not live in the same house and have the same parents. Ha! Ha!

"I want to take time to thank a number of classmates who helped with our 45th Year Reunion. Because of technology, we partnered in different ways this year: face-to-face meetings, via social media such as FB, conference call, direct mail, e-mail, chat rooms, and through our new website, www.rockhill66.com. Yes! The times are a changing, aren’t they?

Please, thank the following individuals for their participation when you see them Saturday night:

Delores (Dee) Raymes Walker and Rod Beck : These two loyal classmates called our first meeting of 2011, got the ball rolling and attended each face-to-face meeting. We would not be having a reunion this year had it not been for them.

Betty Mathis Diamond is our social media Guru. Because of her efforts on FB and Classmates.com, many of you will be attending our reunion. She communicated constantly with me and she directed classmates to the website to register.

Linda Greene George was our creative consultant. With her background in business she contributed useful ideas that we did not think of that are incorporated into our special night. She is awesome and naturally talented.

Kay Elrod Manning… What can I say? Kay gave of her own time via email and our website to give me hours of feedback and suggestions on how to make "your," "our," website what it is today. She made suggestions for the songs that were downloaded. She was my second set of eyes on the website. I think I can speak for Kay in saying that the website has been a labor of love for both of us. I am the administrator of the website but Kay is my co-administrator, whether she realizes it or not. Kay, thank you so much for your support and help.

Lane Faulkenberry Thornhill-West and Rita Ferrell attended meetings but were pulled away due to family commitments…something that all of us have dealt with and are dealing with at this stage of life. Nonetheless, they helped move our reunion along.

Barbara Bolden Black participated over the phone during our meeting and will be helping during registration Saturday.

Daniel and Mary Jane Webster will be on hand Saturday to greet you. Daniel spearheaded many reunions in the past and he and Mary Jane passed along contact information to us from past reunions that was crucial in reaching many of you this year.

Linda Greene George, Daniel and Mary Jane Webster, Barbara Bolden Black, Betty Mathis, Kay Manning Elrod, Karen Tinsley, Dee Raymes Walker, Rod Beck and myself will be there to welcome everyone this Saturday night. See you then!

Becky

What a great response from all of you. Thanks for being involved in the Message Forum. Looking forward to hearing from all of you after the reunion as well. Don't hesitate to upload your reunion pictures and keep us updated on your lives as time goes on. I have a friend in Charlotte whose class at Harding is extremely active with the other classes at her school and those classes at West Meck. They have an active web site and a mixed reunion every year at the beach. Not only do they celebrate together on a regular basis, they do fund raisers to help out fellow classmates and act as a support system for each other, using the web site as a vehicle to spread the word.  I would love to see our Bearcat friends come together in this way. Let's not let all this very special communication end after the reunion.

To Becky Littlefield, Nancy Chambers and Janice Edwards, I remember all those times we cut class at King's and drove all over Charlotte. We ate at some of the finest dives. I can taste those cheeseburgers now. We thought we had arrived in the big city. Ah, to be young AND wise. I guess you can't have it all. We did survive, though, didn't we?  Remember Rodney Sutton? our male counterpart. We miss you Rodney, please contact us if you can.

Beck, you have done a fantastic job with this web site. I know you have spent precious hours sitting at that desk downloading, uploading, editing, creating. Thank you so much.

All of you on the Committee, thank you for all the hours you spent searching out classmates, planning and creating such an exciting event. We are so blessed to have each of you.

Just a word of advice to my classmates: Don't overdo. No need to lose 30 pounds, color the hair, nip/tuck, or even try to squeeze into those control-top panty hose (and that includes the ladies too.) Just come as you are and enjoy yourself. We are all senior citizens now and it "ain't gonna get any better than this."

Love to you all - Kay

Looking forward to seeing you all.

To All: I am so upset that I can't find Carol Percival. I saw her once in the grocery store a few months ago. We talked for a long time, but not much information was exchanged. At that time we did not have a web site, but I told her to look at the Class of 1965's web site, it was great. She indicated she would love to see everyone again and specifically asked about Brenda Comer. I know she would enjoy this reunion. I have tried to remember specifics, but nothing has turned up any sign of Carol. If any of you know where she is or what her last name is now, please post it so I can try another angle before tomorrow night. Thanks.

Kay

In response to Karen's post about her mom dancing around the house and so excited about her 50th reunion, I remember my Dad saying he was going to his 50th. I thought I should be so lucky to live that long. I think one of the happiest days of his life was when we kids got our AARP cards. So, this one's for you Daddy, my 45th and I'm on Social Security now! Finally, something to be proud of.

My mother always loved to dance. When she moved to Raleigh years ago she took ballroom dance lessons and joined a seniors dance club. She would drive around after dark going to her dances (some out of town). We used to shiver at the thought of that, but she had to retire from dancing after breaking several bones as a result of an unfortunate twirling incident. She told me once she was taking SHAG lessons and I thought that was so cool. She preferred the Latin dances to the shag, but sadly I think it was a rumba that led to her retirement.

Betty - thanks for clearing up that burning question about David's GTO. I had forgotten the color, but I remember all the guys thought his car was so cool (so did the girls). And wasn't it Dana Pelletier that drove the Barracuda? Between the two of them, one could just stand in the parking lot at the Park Inn and smell the testosterone coming down the street. Ah, those were the days!

I was surprised to hear about others going to King's College in Charlotte.  I graduated from King's in 1967 and enjoyed it very much. I lived in a dorm, learned to play bridge, met many wonderful friends, and had too much fun.  For the next 44 years, I utilized my skills as a Secretary.  My favorite subject....Shorthand!  I still use it today!!!

Just wanted to every one at the reunion last Saturday how much I enjoyed seeing you and for those who couldn't make it for whatever reason, you really missed a great time.

I'm reminded of a cross stitch quote I did many years ago..." Make new friends, keep the old. One is silver, the other gold".  You are all my "gold" friends.

Everyone was making fun of my camera flash. Yes, it was a little annoying, but after seeing the pictures they turned out fine. It was so dark in there I guess it was geared for night-time photos and it did a great job. You will see them soon.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to the committee!  Loads of work went into this reunion.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Loved the memorabilia tables.  Dee, I would love a scan of the Sunbeam picture you displayed.

I forgot to sign up for the booklet.  Is there a spot here on the web?

My favorite memory of the reunion.......BECKY, please tell me no pictures were taken of us dancing around with "Elvis"  :-)

I definitely don't want to forget anyone that helped with the reunion in expressing my thanks.  Your hard work showed all evening.  I  hope that for the next reunion I can be of more help and come for some of the meetings (50th WOW).  Thanks Becky for such a great tool for us with the website and am grateful to Kay for offering to help you.  We have a nice website where we can catch up on classmate's happenings and even hopefully it wil bring some of us together between the reunions.

I had such fun Saturday night.  I tried to get around to every table, but I am sure I missed some.  It was nice to see everyone and to catch up.  I sat with Dee Ratteree, Gloria Kimbrell, and Kathy Collins and we just started up where we left off the last time we saw each other.  I love these ladies and have treasured their friendships.  Watch out class - we are planning a girls weekend and it may be even more fun than the ones we had in high school.

If you did not make the reunion, please try to make the next one.  We missed you!

Barbara Bolden Black

Becky, Thank you so much for all your hard work organizing the 45th High School Reunion. I feel so blessed to have played a very small part in helping out a little bit. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do so. Everything last night was just wonderful! The food was outstanding...good choices!!!! The band and the entertainment was fun. You did a fantastic job!!!! My only wish is that we don't have to wait another 5 years to see some of our friends again. Hopefully, with this website we can stay in touch. Being by myself, this website is an outage for me to stay in contact with friends. Thank you, Becky

Karen T.
