Hi People:  Just back from the beach and saddened by the horrible damage Harvey has caused. I thought about Anne Bagley Elliott the  whole time.  As you may know, she lives in Kingwood Texas.  Please search Kingwood Tx damage from Harvey and see the devastation she is experiencing right now.  I don't know if she is able to get on line right now, but it's worth a try. Perhaps some of you know her well enough to give her a call.  My heart aces for you Anne, and we pray for a rapid recovery for all hit by Harvey.  Pray that Erma stays out of that area!

I have been in touch with Anne.  They are OK as we speak.  Prayers still needed.  She posted some

unbelievable pictures on FB.

Wanted to let all know that Linda Jane Burleson passed away. Her services are scheduled on September 9 @ Greene's.  She was class of '67 but many of us were freinds with her.

Kay, we are fine. Our street did not flood. Kingwood was hit hard and many friends lost their homes  . I am still having survivors guilt. To see the destruction is so sad  we are blessed  thank you for asking  now you SC folks batten down the hatches!!

I just left our house in Oak Island.  Don't know what to expect.  Cleaned off the porch and put rocking chairs, tables, and porch junk inside house.  We are on pilings so if a Cat 4 or 5 hits, it really won't matter cause the roof will be sucked off and the house will collapse. It's scary but the price we pay for beach living.  Charlotte could get it too.  Keep some waters on hand and canned foods just in case.  I don't remember much about Hugo, but was it a Cat  4 or 5 when it hit Charleston?  I remember 90 mph winds in Charlotte. We lost power for 4 days.  Someone refresh my memory.

Anne, what preparations did you make for Harvey if any?  So glad you are ok and your home is intact.  My prayers will be with you and your neighbors until normalcey is restored.

Some local news from Kingwood, TX. Anne says her home was spared but some of her neighbors' homes were not.

We are on way to Tampa Florida. Our cruise is scheduled to go out tomorrow to Cuba. Hasnt been cancelled so we are trusting that cruise line is keeping us safe with their knowledge of hurricane path. There is still time for them to cancel if need to.

Kay, Hugo was a cat 4 when it hit Charleston and dropped to  Cat 2 before moving inland. My agency paid out millions for over 2500 claims. I don't look forward to doing that again, but we are ready.

Thanks Richard!  I think we are all a little better prepared for this one.  I still have a problem with what to buy to eat.  I did pick up some tuna, waters and batteries.  I guess fruit would be good, but must buy that closer to weekend or it will be spoiled by Tuesday/Wed.  Good luck and thanks for looking out for all those who will suffer damages through the storm.

Anne Elliott, keep us posted on the recovery in your area.

I have a young friend who left Naples Florida yesterday alone and made it to Atlanta with her big dog. The sad thing is she just found out she has ovarian cancer.   Please pray for her safe journey and courage as she faces an uncertain future.

Thanks so  much to you and the others, Kay, who have so faithfully been delivering updates on classmates & friends both in harm's way (Harvey & Irma) and grieving the loss of precious loved ones.  So much heartache.

Kay Manning (Elrod)

Thank you for your kind words, George.  For some reason, I feel their fear.  Maybe because I wouldn't want to be in that situation. How does one "run" from a natural disaster?

I just heard from Mike Lamb and he will be staying in his home (Fernandina Beach). I hope our classmates will reach out to him and let him know he's being thought of, and Judy too.

I sent emails to Kathy Collins, Reba, and some others, but have not heard back. Hopefully, they found a safe place.

BTW, our young friend made it home to Nashville to her mother's house.  What a journey!  Prayers are very appreciated.

From Barbara Hardin Gunter:

"So far we are safe. We have had rain & wind all day. Now at 8:02 p.m., the rains is heavier and the winds are more swift. We have a tornado watch until midnight. They just had a news update & BayNews 9 says the eye will be between Winter Haven & Tampa and we are in Lakeland. It is suppose to reach us around 2 a.m. We are as ready as can be and not really worried too much after having lived in Wilmington, N.C. for 31 years where we had hurricanes yearly... Of course, anything can change. Hopefully it stays as predicted and moves out of here. I am so ready for it to go. Thank you for checking up.."

Rebecca Littlefield Jones writes:

"I left Friday & at Lake Norman until hopefully tomorrow I can drive home.  Very nasty raining flooding in CHS. Bridges closing we have heard bc of high winds & tornado warnings.  BUT nothing as horrible as TX & FL."

Thought the class would like to know that Trudy Sowell Robinson's sister passed away so they can keep Trudy and her family in their prayers.

Profile   From Ruth McAteer Lockridge 9/14/2017 re her Irma cruise:

"Good morning. We had the option of going or not with full refund if we decided not to go. Since we had traveled all the way to Tampa on Sept. 6, and after we were assured we would be safe, we decided to go so we left on Sept. 7 and had wonderful time. We thought we wouldn't get to visit Cuba, the main reason for our cruise to start with, but although it was cut short, we did get to visit Havana Cuba for full day and left that night at midnight just as Irma was hitting the northeast coast of Cuba. We left for Cozumel which was not on our itinerary and stayed for 2 days, then had days at sea until we could get back safely. We didn't know if Port of Tampa would open in time for us to get there so the other option was to go to Port Canaveral and take ground transportation to Tampa to get our vehicle. As it turned out, Tampa opened on Wednesday and we were able to dock and get off there yesterday. I have to say this cruise was one of the best ever. I celebrated my birthday while on cruise, was given free spa time, free photos, and a few free drinks. The ship had 2600 people scheduled to sail but there were only about 500 or 600 that decided to go so we were treated royally. Best cruise ever. I will hate the next one because we were spoiled on this one. Thank you for asking and caring. Cuba was something to see. So glad we got to see part of it. Would like to go back and see Guantanamo Bay and other areas that we didn't get to visit this time."
