Yep, nobody wins um all. It's really hard to get beat by a team that has already lost 3 games and not close on talent. Just part of what makes college sports great. As long as the Tigers beat the Gamecoots, the year is a success.

Dee and Ruth wanted to discuss football with you.  My comments aren't worth much of a response.

Please send prayers for Bill and Anne Bagley Elliott.  Bill has been suffering with some big medical problems since last November and they need our prayers.  They are also recovering from the hurricane destruction in their town and the surrounding area that will take a long time to get back to normal. Many business were lost in the area.  They seem to be having a hard year and Anne said though she doesn't get to follow the web site very often she would feel the prayers.

I found this in an old Southern Living magazine.  It's cute - wanted to share it with you. It sounds like some places we visited in high school. How do you like your BBQ?

David Sealy asks for prayers for his parents who are struggling at this time. Please add them to your prayer lists. His email reads as follows:

"L.B. (Louie) Sealy is in Westminster Rehab (broken hip) and Alzheimer’s. We moved mother, Annie Mae Sealy , into assisted living at Westminster yesterday. She has Dementia "

David, you certainly have my prayers. Do they understand the separation. It would be hard to suddenly be separated after all those years together.  Kay

Thank you Kay. My Dad is not handling it well. Mother, on the other hand , is finally getting a good nights sleep. Dad has had “SUNDOWNERS” for over a year. Alzheimer’s has increased significantly since the hip surgery.

I hate we have to sometimes go through the trials of life. No one says it is all easy. We were sent her to be tested and tried. If we past all our test we will one day be reunited as new. Our mortal experience is some times most difficult, but we can rest assured that we have a loving heavenly Father who will not put on US more than we can stand. I have known the Sealy family all my life, and I know the kind of man Louis Sealy is. And I AM proud to call the family friends. May God Bless you in your trials and may your faith keep you whole.

Thank you Harry. Your words are true and heartfelt. I am using them as my devotion this afternoon. Love you my Brother and Friend. I will share this with my father and mother tomorrow.  Psalm 133

Martha Josephine Rees Rast

Martha Josephine Rees Rast (RHHS1967), 67, transitioned peacefully from this life with her husband, Steve (RHHS 1966), at her side, August 22, at CMC Pineville after a brief illness.  She was born September 18, 1949, in Kershaw, SC, to Richard K. and Josephine M. Rees.  She moved in 1955 to Rock Hill and attended Winthrop Training School until her junior year of high school.  In 1967, she graduated Rock Hill High School and after graduation attended Massey Fashion Institute in Atlanta, G.A.

On November 4, 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, Steven Douglas Rast, at her home church, the Episcopal Church of Our Savior.  They lived in Columbia and Camden until moving to Rock Hill in 1974.

Martha was active in the community serving as President of the Rock Hill Democratic Party as well as serving on the York County Democratic Executive Committee.  She served as Clerk of the Rock Hill 5 voting precinct and was a volunteer for the local meals on wheels program and served Habitat for Humanity of York County as Chair of the Family Selection Committee.

She was active in church work serving as leader of the United Methodist Youth Fellowship at Lyttleton Street UMC in Camden and Bethel and Aldersgate UMC in Rock Hill.  Also, she served as choir director at Aldersgate.   She became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in 1989 and was a member of the choir, youth leader, and team member of the RCIA program.  She also was a member of the Ecumenical Chorale.

Recently she had found a new way to serve her community and found a new family serving as an associate at the Publix on Heckle Blvd.

Martha is survived by her husband, Steve, her daughter Rebecca Wrenshall (Gerald) Saunders of Liberty Township, OH, and three sons, Steven Douglas, Jr. and Christian McDonald Rast of Rock Hill, and John Richard (Yoshiko) Rast of Funabashi-shi, Japan; three grandchildren, Madison Claire and Trey Saunders and Sho Rast; and two sisters-in-law, Janice R. (Bob)Lambert and Cheryl K (Holland) Stowe and a niece, Cynthia Stowe, all of Rock Hill and a nephew, Jason Kritzer, of Lynchburg, VA.  She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Josephine Rees, and her Uncle and Aunt, Col. James McDonald and his wife, Florence.  She also leaves behind the two family Maine Coon cats, Tucker and Margot.

The Funeral Mass for Martha will be held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 902 Crawford Rd., Rock Hill, on Saturday, November 4, at 10 am.  The family will receive friends after the service in the Church Social Hall.  Committal Rites will be held on Sunday, November 5, at the Oratory Memorial Garden after the 6 PM liturgy at the Oratory Church.  Memorials may be made to the Oratory Community, 434 Charlotte Ave., Rock Hill, S.C. 29730.

The family thanks Martha’s Publix family, the Rock Hill High School classes of 1967 and 1966, her church family, the York County Elections Office, the doctors and nurses of CMC Pineville, and  her many friends, all of whom supported Martha and her family through this most difficult journey.

Sister Carolyn Ann Bennett, Ihm

Hello, Steve

I was so sorry to hear of Martha's illness and passing. She was a great lady and I know you feel her presence day by day.  Recently I lost my mom, Mary Bennett and my sister Nancy Bennett Grane (class of 1967) and a day does not go by that our family misses them and thinks of them often. Be assured of my prayers for you and your family at this difficult time.  God bless and keep you close to Him, Steve.

Dennis W. Haire

Joel Ferrell was my first cousin and good friend, especially from as early as I can remember through high school.  There were many times we were together at my grandfather's grocery store on Annafrel Street (Boulware's Grocery), at Northside Elementary School from 1st grade through 8th grade, and then at RHHS.  It's sad that as you get older that your lives take you in different directions and people that you are so close to are no longer a part of your everyday life.  When we did see each other, we reflected on the good old days and the family times as part of the Boulware clan.  Our mothers (mine - Betty; his - Grace)  were sisters along with Steven Vignola's (class of '65)  mother, Doris and another sister, Naomi.  At one time, our grandparents and all of our 4 families lived on Annafrel Street.  That's the way things were back in the 1950's.  So sad to hear of Joel's passing.  In recent years, he had suffered from a brain tumor which had severely affected his vision and he had a number of heart bypasses.  In the last year, he moved from Rock Hill back to Florida where he had lived much of his adult life.  Joel, we'll always remember you.

Dennis and The Ferrell Gang!  Joel is the little one.

Sister Carolyn Bennett recently spoke of her mother and sister whom she lost this past year. In a recent conversation with Sister Carolyn, she asks for prayers for her family as they are still mourning their losses.  She said her sister, Nancy Bennett Grane, class of 1967 did not want a service and had no obituary. She died March 28, 2017 as a result of a short, but very serious illness.  Carolyn, I hope you find comfort in knowing we are praying for you and your family in your time of sorrow.
