Kay Manning (Elrod)

Robert:  My prayer for you is that God continues to bless you with all His gifts - your faith, peace of mind and spirit, hope for a healthy future, healing, and many miracles yet to come.  In those long boring hours of recuperation, if you haven't already, try counting your blessings. That should keep you busy for hours!  Praying you are up and around soon.

Robert Gantt

Dear RHHS Class of 1966 friends: Many thanks for the messages of prayers, hope and encouragement. One of my daughters recently set up the Caring Bridge site to help keep everyone informed and it has been a big help especially to my wife, Laura, who has done a great but exhausting job keeping different groups up to date while trying to make sure no one gets left out.

A CaringBridge Site was created for me. It‘s a caring social network to help people stay connected with family and friends during a health event. We should have set this account up years earlier.

https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/robertgantt
Site Name: Robertgantt

If you visit the Caring Bridge site, they will let you know when there is an update posted.

This health journey started in March 2018 with a diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer. I saw Doctors at Levine Cancer Center, Duke and South Carolina Oncology Associates. My cancer was inoperable and my best option for treatment was IV chemotherapy. My first two chemo combinations lasted over two years each before the cancer found a way to work around it’s effects. I've just started my third combination and Doctors tell me it probably won't work as long. The reason for recent visits to Duke was to have cancerous tumors biopsied from my lungs with the hope of finding tissue in the biopsies susceptible to a known drug that has been successful fighting my type of cancer. It's a preemptive move looking for a "next step" treatment. If this effort is not successful then immunotherapy or clinical trials may be the next move.

That's probably more than most of you wanted to know but I can tell from texts and calls that a lot people really didn't understand where I was in this journey.

By the way the 2018 year is not a typo. I have been an exception with 4 1/2 years of treatment
and feeling pretty well most of the time. My Doctors are amazed. I give God all the credit and I thank each one of you for your prayers. I know for sure the God answers prayers. I'm living proof of it.

I have a big Birthday coming up soon and Laura and I just celebrated 53 years of
a wonderful marriage. I have great Doctors and the best caregiver in Laura that you can imagine.

Thanks for your concerns and prayers.

Robert

Profile  Regarding Hurricane IAN. From Barbara Hardin Gunter in Lakeland, Fl on Wednesday 9/28/2022:  Checking on our classmates in Florida to the best of my ability and we have a couple of responses.

Thank you so much. Right now just waiting. One station says it will come in around 2 am Thursday morning and another says 8 am Thursday. Got alot of wind and rain now, but not bad yet. We are at home and just as safe here as anywhere and ready. Just hope we can bypass the power outages.

Judy Miller  From Judy Miller Layton, The Villages in Florida Wednesday 9/28/2022 regarding Hurricane IAN

Yes we are staying. We don't live on the coast or in a flood zone. We are in the center of the state. Our homes are well built and our utilities are underground. Our biggest concern is a tornado. Hopefully, we will be spared that.
Thank you for asking.

Profile  Good Morning from sunny Florida,      🌞

We made it through the hurricane and truly got lucky. We were in for a direct hit, but at the last, it came in from  the southern end of Polk County. Luckily we were on the left side of the storm and in NW end of Polk County so we dodged the bullit. We had alot of debrie in the yard and wind and rain up until mid morning but never lost power. Very Thankful!!!!  Hope that's it for this year. Thanks to all for the concern.

Barbara, thanks for keeping us posted on your safety.  You were so lucky to have dodged the devastating destruction of Ian.  Our prayers are with everyone in Florida as they clean up and recover from this traumatic experience. Please stay in touch with us.

Dodged another bullet! The worse thing that happened was, lost power for a couple of hours! We are all good on Amelia Island, Florida. I hope every one else is safe.

Life is good....

Thanks for letting us know, Mike.  So glad you are okay!  K
