According to the Caring Bridge web site and a post by Katherine, our dear Robert passed away last night. The world was a better place with Robert in it. Peace to him and peace to his precious family.

"Our dad peacefully went to heaven this evening.  We thank you all for your loving words and prayers over the last several years and especially the last few weeks.  We have felt loved and understand how wonderful it is to have true friends and family who support us.  We have spent numerous hours in recent weeks reading your kind comments to our dad and it brought a smile to his face.  He has been glowing.  We count ourselves blessed to have had such a wonderful dad and husband.  We are glad to be a people who grieve in hope. "

My condolences to Robert's family and friends. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing. Reflecting upon this, I would like to say farewell to my friend and offer a few words my fellow Marines and Sailors say following the passing of a comrade: "Fair Winds and Following Seas."

Robert was/is a great guy!  We kept in touch over the years.  Besides being good friends at RHHS, my wife, Lynn, grew up two doors from Robert on Flint Street.  She lived there until 6th grade at Central, then moved away & moved back in 1968.  We would bump into Robert during holidays, etc. when visiting the parents on Flint St.  One time, we ran into Robert & Laura at the beach and had a great time. So many fond memories!

All,

Below is a message from Ruth McAteer Lockridge. Please keep Pat in your thoughts and prayers.

Becky

Message from Ruth:

Pat Williford Hampton's husband, George died this past summer and Pat asked me to let you know.

Today I got word that Pat has had a heart attack. I worked many years with Pat and George at RHSD and know/knew both very well. Thanks for our website. It's very informative and I love reading about our classmates.

Hello Classmates,

It is hard to believe that seven years will have passed in 2023 since our 50th Class Reunion.

The Class Reunion Planning Committee is looking forward to the 57th Class Reunion and seeing each of you! But, we need your help. Please check your information and update it, if needed.

Also, we need your help locating Missing Bearcats. Please check the list on the top left of the website. If you know the whereabouts of any of these Classmates, please contact them or let us know. Our goal is to locate and contact every Classmate. With all of us working together, we can do it!!

Thank you for your help! We're looking forward to seeing you soon!

Cheryl

Currently, I am trying to locate James "Jimmy" Robert Stephenson. If any of you were friends with Jimmy or know him, please let me know. Thank you!

Two of our beautiful granddaughters informed us that we are expecting 2 more great grandchildren this summer. That makes 14 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. They both live in Rock Hill. The count now is 12 grandchildren. That makes 26 total.

David, that is wonderful news. Congratulations!  K

A classmate has inquired about Rita Nalley.  Does anyone have any information about Rita?

Dennis has a little New Year's competition - Mary Ann Moody Foley who just joined the web site shares a birthday with Dennis - January 1, 1948. I wonder if they were born at the same hospital?

Recently, while searching for some information for our reunion committee, I had the opportunity to reread some of our conversations on Message Forum. You can do this by clicking on the page numbers which go back to 2011.  One of my favorite conversations all of you talked about was growing up in RH and the elementary schools you attended, including some of RH's not so desireable residents like the Blue Buckles and Green Dots, your favorite places to eat, neighborhoods, and what a safe and fun place it was to grow up in. I also noticed some of the people who contributed to the discussions have not been heard from in quite some time, for example, Tommy Hart. Does anyone know how Tommy is doing?  I miss his input.  Also, Jackie Kimbrell - I know you are out there Jackie. We need to hear from you. Mike Woodall used to keep us informed about the music and the radio program he enjoyed, miss hearing from you, Mike. Check in and let us know how you all are. K

Kay Manning (Elrod)

Our Class Reunion Committee is really working hard to find our lost classmates. There is a question about Ronnie Broome who is listed on our list, but there has been some confusion about his name and where he is. Cheryl found that he was also listed as Lonnie Broome. Ronald Broome died some time ago.  There is also a Ronald Broom listed in the Class of 1967. We can assume this is the same person since Ronnie disappeared from the Class of '66 radar about his junior year.  Does anyone have any information regarding Ronnie/ Lonnie Broome or Ronald Broom? HELP!

2/2/23  Thanks to Annie Williams and Barbara Smith Lazenby from Class '67, I think we have this problem solved. Thanks girls, you've been a great help!

George, your weekly blog to the class is a hoot and, I must say, your discretion in not singing those words while running laps for Coach Wallace or anywhere else near the boys' locker room was to your advantage and probably saved you a lot of grief back in those days.

Your class trivia is so fun and your efforts to wake and shake us up are greatly appreciated. You are such an asset to the web site.  One thing we are short of these days is humor, and laughing is one of the most enjoyable physical activities at any age. It takes practically no energy at all and has the added benefit of burning calories. So, it is safe to say the more we laugh, the more cookies we can eat.  Thanks for all your hard work. K

George Crow

You are too kind, Kay, but as I just told another, "Flattery will get you everywhere." :-)

Now if our classmates will start unlocking their memories and sharing stories, I'm sure there's plenty more laughs to come!

George, we would be happy to unlock the memories and share with you, but some of us have misplaced the key. It's hard to remember what we ate for breakfast this morning.

Linda Greene (George)

Found out this morning that our classmate, Cathy Walker Cranford passed away last month. She was the widow of another classmate, Richard Cranford.

Service will be this Thursday the 16th at Greene's Northwest Chapel.

Her obit can be found at Greene's website.

She was a very sweet person and I know she will be missed.

What were you doing in 1981?  One of many of our special classmates serving the community such as Max Youngblood, who served as The Exhaulted Ruler of the Rock Hill Elks Club #1318, 1981-1982.

Jimmy Vick

I had just transfered to Pensacola, Fl to a composite helicopter squadron flying search & rescue for the Gulf Coast and plane guard for the USS Lexington. Also got to watch my Clemson Tigers win the 1981 National Championship by going undefeated and beating Nebraska in the Orange Bowl, January 1982.

Thanks for your service to our country, Jimmy.  The way you guys can remember ballgames and dates is a wonder to me. K
