Here's a message from Anthony Choppi.

Just wanted to let everyone know we lost Tom Zander today he died somethime during the night. He had been taken to Byron, IL nursing home called Neighbors. He will be missed especially by me. We grew up together from 1st grade at St. Anthony's thru Auburn High thru now. He served in the Army in Vietnam. Please add his name to the list of departed school mates. He will be missed he was a good friend.

Here's the obituary for Tom Zander.

Charles Thomas Zander, 64, of Rockford peacefully passed away Sunday June 14, 2009 in Neighbors Rehabitation Center in Byron Illinois. He is survived by his children, Kelly Fritz, Tracy Fortson, Dana Johnson, Brandon, Andrew Zander, Jamey Duck. Also his siblings, Charla Z (Dennis) Kalen, David Zander, Steve Zander and Pamela J. Miller of Rockford,IL. Predeceased by parents, Charles E. and Hazel M. (Lorenzen) Zander. Thanks to our friend Linda Berry and to Neighbors Rehabilitation Center for the great respect that was given to our dad/brother.

There will be a celebration of life at 1 p.m. Saturday June 27, at 1336 Banks Street.

Anthony Choppi said this is Tom Zander's sister's house.

It will be in the newspaper sometime this coming week. They are holding a memorial open house at his sister's home since he has been cremated.

Tom was always a happy person when I knew him in high school. I hope he enjoyed life. I am sad to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to his family and close friends. I know he will be remembered at our upcoming 45th reunion along with several others. God Bless

It is a shame to lose a class member,especilly 2 in a month and a half. First Boyd and now Tom. They will be both be dearly missed. My prayers and condolences to the familys.

WHEN TOM AND I MET AT ST ANTHONY AND ST PETER AND PAUL SCHOOL I did NOT REALIZE WE WOULD HAVE SUCH A STRONG FRIENDSHIP THAT HAS LASTED FOR 60 yrs .FROM GRAD SCHOOL TO AUBURN WE WORKED TOGETHER AND WERE ON A BOWLING TEAM TOGETHER.WE WOULD GO AFTER BOWLING TO CONNIES PIZZA EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT. TOM WAS THE BESTMAN AT MY WEDDING AND MY PARTNER WHEN WE ATE TOMATOES FROM HIS MOM DAD GARDEN WHEN EVER I NEED TO TALK OVER A PROBLEM TOM YOU WERE ALWAYS THERE FOR ME. AND I FOR YOU.FRIENDSHIP IS LIKE A MERRIAGE GIVE AND TAKE.I WILL MISS OUR CONVERSATIONS NO MATTER WHEN I CALLED YOU ALWAYS SAY YOU WERE DOING GOOD EVEN IF IT WASNT SO WE TALK ABOUT THE BEARS AND HOW THE GARDEN WAS .THIS WILL BE THE FIRST REUNION WITH OUT MY DEAR FRIEND BUT YOU WILL BE IN MY HEART YOUR FRIEND ALWAYS TONY.
