Things To Do
Our classmate Dave Murray shared some more ideas when visiting Cleveland this August. He is coming from Nevada by train! Here are 20 more things to do. Thanks Dave!
1. West Side Market, West 25th
2. Little Italy, Mayfield Road. BTW: The Mayfield Road Gang, developed Las Vegas, Moe Dalitz, et. al.
3. Slavic Village, Fleet Avenue
4. Shaker Historical Society, South Park Blvd.
5. Downtown Chagrin Falls
6. Downtown Chardon ( Maple sugar shops )
7. Ride the rapid transit from Hopkins Airport to Windemere and Shaker.
8. Tour Cleveland's City Hall. Call ahead for a visit with the mayor.
9. Lakeview Cemetary is cool. If you visit, take the Mayfield Road Entrance, East up the hill from Murray Hill ( Little Italy ) turn North and you will be spot on to John D. Rockefeller's tall oblisque grave marker.
10. I like Mentor as you get two interesting places to visit, Garfield's home and about two miles south on Chillicothe Road, the first LDS Temple. LDS is huge out here in this section of the west.
11. Cedar Point.
12. Catawba Island ( free, accessible nice swim beach on the East side overlooking Cedar Point.
13. Lake Erie fishing charters off Port Clinton.
14. Ferry rides to Kelley's Island with a day trip walk-around on the island.
15. August will have tons of roadside fresh Ohio grown veggie and fruit stands along the state routes like highway 20.
16. Weber's frozen custard stand on Lorain Road in Fairview Park.
17. Bearden's and Rustic steak burgers in Rocky River.
18. NFL Hall of Fame in Canton.
19. Dr. Bob's house in Akron ( Co founder of AA ).
20. Thomas Edison's birthplace in Milan.
Should also include Walleye fishing charter services. Public golf courses. Indians, aka Guardians, games. Ethic restaurants. Western Reserve Historical Society, LDS Kirtland Temple, James A. Garfield home - Lawnfield, Johnny Johnson farm in Hiram, Allan Medical Instruments Museum at CWRU, Cleveland Jewish Museum on Mayfield Road.
