Mary Ann, Our brains and intellect will lead us to one conclusion, then our emotions come along and mess with us. As you know, Bob's deteriorating state caused many changes in him. I'm sure that Bob, the man who loved you - and still does - would be the very first to tell you to pay no attention to what he was saying. He was not himself and he would probably rebuke himself for saying what he did. The two of you were both blessed to have, not just such wonderful partners, but to mesh so well with one another. The Mary Ann that I know, that we all know, would put her best into being a spouse, mother, teacher, etc.. I'm not trying to talk you into getting a puppy, Mary Ann, but not being an experienced handler shouldn't be a drawback. After all, you weren't an experienced teacher, mother, wife, grandma, (need I go on?), when you took those upon yourself. Puppies do take a lot of attention and won't take care of themselves like cats will. One other minor point - you are not perfect, and should not expect yourself to be. (If you were, I believe that the rest of us would have to take you out and crucify you - I think that's the rule.) You have always been someone who gave her best - that's terrific!!
