Janet, August 26, 2017 sounds good to me right now.  Will try not to schedule any trips at that time next year.

I was invited to a very enjoyable event this weekend..... Rick Vida and Rosie Webster Vida invited me to  join their annual gathering of Shrine alumni at their beautiful home on the Peninsula overlooking East Bay here in Traverse City.  Lou DesRosiers, Nancy Garrant, Dave Donnelly, Fred and Sue Kelly Arnold, the twins - Margaret and Pam Kollar, Cam Welsh, Rick's brother and sister, plus spouses (and I'm sure I have forgotten to name others), made for lively conversation and interesting stories of our days at Shrine.  So much fun!

Wow Arlene,

You really were at a Shrine reunion.  Classes of at least 62, 63 and 64. Must have really been a reunion.

Happy Birthday, Collette, I hope that all is well for you in Southern California.

Janet, does this mean that I should wait to buy new golf shoes so I can see what's fashionable next Summer?  I don't know as I can keep up.

Finding "fashionable" golf shoes is an oxymoron!  Way too much stress to even consider!

Tom Scott -  we had to watch 3 grandchildren in August (ages 14, 12 and 10) for 5 days in Chicago.  They were no problem whatsoever.  The 6-week old new black lab puppy, however, nearly pushed me over the edge!  What a handful 😳.  It's a good thing he was cute, but the mischief he could get into was unbelievable.  Good luck with your new puppy!  You will need it.

Happy autumn everyone.  Fall colors in northern Michigan are always breathtaking.  I'll send pictures when they are ready.

My sister sent me at article on Father Coughlin on how he started the Shrine. To get money he went to the Tigers and asked if some of the players would come to church to help increase donatipns. Just so happened the Yankees were in town and The Babe showed up with other Yankees. They $10,000, neat story.

Just wanted to tell everyone know my Mom passed away yesterday at the age of 92.  I think some of you already know, my mom graduated from Shrine High in the very first class.  It was all girls back then.  She had a long life most of which was quality. She was living with my sister and her family for the past two years in the Traverse City area.  This past June my brother and sister-in-law brought my Mom to Delaware for a visit.  Three of my children and six of my grandchildren were able to spend some time with her  The night before she died she and my sister's family went out to dinner at a Cajun restaraunt at my Mom's suggestion and her treat.  Sadly, I will be making the trip out to Michigan this week to attend the funeral in Clarkston.

Tom Scott

Enjoyed your story about Fr. Coughlin.  I have told many people over the years about him.  Your story will be something else to tell.  Fr. Coughlin gave both my Mom and me are diplomas and he also married my parents at the Shrine.

Kathleen -  Sorry to hear about your Mom.  As you know, my mother died August 29th and was in her 98th year.  She also lead a good long life.  I'm heading back to Royal Oak for her graveside service this weekend.  Just sold the home that I grew up in, so will only have fond memories since the house will be torn down to make room for newer and bigger.  My sympathy to you and your family.

Kathy,  My sincere sympathy goes out to you and your family at the loss of your mom.  I didn't remember that she was in the Shrine HS first graduating class!  What a legacy your family has.  I'm glad you were able to spend time with her this summer.   My sister-in-law, Kathy Stickel, recently had lunch with her freinds Therese Frye and your sister, Janet.  I love our entwined histories.

Arlene, will be thinking of you this weekend for your mom's funeral.

Kathy, please accept our sympathy at the loss of your mother.  How blessed you were to have  had that special time with her recently to cherish in your memory. God bless you and your family.

Arlene, prayers are with you  as you attend your mothers memorial.  Selling your family home is difficult but the memories will always be with you.  The new home will start with new memories, built on the foundation of love  from your family.

Kathy Brown, well expressed, as usual your sensitivity comes across in your words.

Kathy Poeppe, I remember you mom as having a pleasant smile, and being firm without being scary like some other moms in our neighborhood.  As Kathy said, you were so fortunate to have had some time with her so recently, I'm sure your mom enjoyed seeing so many of you in your branch of her family.  Prayers for you all.

Arlene, memorials can help with closure, though it doesn't appear that you need any, but perhaps others in your mom's clan do.   Prayers for you, too.

Scotty, if Janet says that I'm fashionable (Thanks, Janet, you put another smile on my face.), then your array of outfits will have Fowler jealous of you.  Don't worry about the puppy - it'll have you trained in no time.

Kathy Brown - I can't wait to share with my brother and sister your kind words about the new home being built on the foundation of love from our family. That touched me deeply.  Thank you!

Thanks to Arlene, Janet, Gayle, Tom, Mike all of you for your kind words for my Mom's passing.  Thanks for all the prayers.  I wish I was coming to Michigan for a happier occasion but that is how life goes.  Hope the next time will be to see all of you.

Had to have a CT scan getting a little confused and short tempered. CT scan was normal jyst some normal atrophy, now I know why I can chip or putt. As far as getting angry and short tempered. The analysis said it is normal for athletic guys who cannot perform at the same level when younger. So I guess I will drink a little more and rake on more nonpaying karoke jobs

Kathy, so sorry about your Mom leaving her earth life with you and your family but how wonderful (in reading the comments) that she lived a full and active life to her transition.  God's  blessing to you all.
