Comments:

I went to BYU for one year, marrying Duane after the first quarter. The next summer Duane and I drove cross-country to So. Carolina, courtesy the U.S.Army, and then were transferred to Camp Rucker, Ala. His entire company, but him and 1 other soldier, went to Korea for "mopping up" at the end of the war. Our first baby was born there in Ala. We took her home for Christmas 1955, then we moved back to college. DeeAnn was born in Logan in 1957, and Duane graduated in 1958 at BYU, but went back a year later and got an elem. ed. certificate at Utah State. Duane taught 2 years at Pershing, we had our first son, Verlynn, and then off we went to live and to teach for three years at the Church College of Western Samoa, (sixth grade). What an experience to land in a pasture and then to be greeted by Dolly Hardy (former RHS student from Acequia)and her husband, in such a far off land!! We loved that experience, and came home with son #2, Garn.
After that we moved to Mesa, Az., where we were blessed with 5 more children. Duane retired from teaching, after 32 years in Mesa, and worked for the post office 5 years. We left in 2ooo for London, England, where we were missionaries for 18 mo.
We went back to Rupert for 2+ years. Our next mission was Athens, Greece, and now we are living in Provo, Utah, near BYU, and are enjoying plays, concerts, and many church activities. We have many DEER that visit our yard frequently also! We love it here, but we miss our many friends and family, all scattered about.

School Story:

Shirley Orchard was such a great friend in high school! We used to visit each other a lot. It was so much fun. Remember how talented she was at the piano? My most embarrassing moment was singing a solo in the class assembly, was it our freshman year, or soph? Shirley accompanied me. I did not have a good musical memory or ear for the pitch. I started off on the wrong pitch and SANG THE WHOLE SONG off pitch!!! I wanted to go hide. And remember the class assembly Jane Remsberg wrote? It was based on Dante's Inferno (I think?) She had to explain it to me. I sure didn't know what it was. But we won first place, didn't we? She was so creative in writing and MANY ways. We used to stay after school and work in the Journalism Barn on the school paper, the Ruporter! Some days after we were done, we would go over to the empty school building, quietly go find our "boy-friends'" lockers, sneak into them, and look through their note-books to see if they had written our names anywhere in their doodling or on some back pages, or somewhere. I am afraid we were always disappointed! Isn't that a silly teen-age thing to do? Well back to Mr. Crouch. He was the greatest teacher! He had us writing the headlines, the stories, printing the galleys, and laying out the paper and selling the advertisements, etc. etc. I realize now we had a very unique opportunity. I wish I could tell Mr. Crouch how much I learned from him, not only in journalism, but in drama, too. Remember the one-act play we took to State in Boise? We took first place, thanks to John Tracy, who did a great job acting as my husband in it. That was a lot of fun. As you can tell, I still like to write a lot!
