I attended Louisiana Tech until 1983. I contracted a severe case of shingles my spring quarter and was unable to contiue school. I moved to West Monroe where I met my husband in 1984. We have a big family. In 1988 we moved to Texas and have remained there since. I helped take care of my mom until her passing in 2003. In 2005 I returned to school at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas and in 2008 I received my Bachelors of Applied Science Degree. Today I am a permanent Substitute teacher at Carthage High Scool. I love what I do and I love the students. I am actively involved in my church. I also volunteer on a regular basis with Heart's Way Hospice in the bereavement department. I also volunteer at our local Crisis Center. I return to Ruston at least once a year as my Dad and stepmom, Ralph and Janis McVay, live on Hwy 80 East there in. Until recently my grandmother lived in the Crossroads Community of Farmerville, LA . My Dad's sister, Betty Bryan and her daughter and son-in-law Angela and Robbie Jenkins live in Ruston with their son Jacob.
The best thing I remember about my 2 years at RHS is the Lady Techsters basketball team won the National Championship my senior year and Kim Mulkey interned during my physical education class and I got to work with her. I didn't grow up in Ruston and I didn't come to the school until my junior year but I was welcomed by so many people. It was a very hard move for me. My Dad had been in the Air Force so we moved quite a bit. At one point we stayed with his parents in Delhi where I attended the elementary my 1st and 2nd grade years. Then I attended a tiny school, Logtown Middle School (it has since closed down), my 3rd through 9th grade years. I then was homeschooled until moving to Ruston. I loved RHS and always will. Thank you to the class of 1981 for making it this way.
