Rob (Roy) McDonell

Compared to the school system in Marysville where I was from, the Sacramento area was fast paced, far more educated and retained its own sense of well-being. Students were becoming well-educated and this allowed me to follow suit and try hard. The people of the suburbs were always friendly yet somehow lacking in a down-home, family feel. One man coined the phrase "....a plastic society." What did he mean by that?
I discovered Young Life in 1980 and became saved at Woodleaf summer camp right after high school graduation in 1981. Lastly, I swam on the swim team - 500 meter and realized I was competing with guys like Larry Newman and Chris Einsphar who were AAA league.

It was hard to foster long-term relationships at this school as a family change forced me to choose a good high school in Sacramento. Originally I was from just 50 miles north; Marysville, CA. Being shy, it was hard to know who to fit in with and many lunch hours were spent in isolation.....I found my way to explore music and joined Mr. Williams choir and got to play roles in the annual spring musicals.
My favorite teacher was Mr. Tom Galloway for Geography and Psychology.
