To family & friends. Today our father Jim, passed away at 81 surrounded by loved ones . As many of you know , these past couple of years Jim fought a brave battle with Merkel Cell Cancer . In January he decided to enter into hospice as he had enjoyed a long life filled with a beautiful marriage to his wife of 58 years Polly , kids and grandchildren he loved and took great pride in , along with a dream job that took him all over the world with many great experiences and memories. We thank everyone for their love and support, with a special Thankyou to Christina Jiminez , and the hospice care family during this journey . More information will follow on his wishes for memorial service . With love , the Jenkins Family November 7, 1942- March 20, 2023

Jim Jenkins was an interesting classmate. He later began writing/reporting for the Sacramento Bee, where I began to know him better - I worked there with the editorial group taking care of the teletype machines, writing some sports stories and book revues.

My prayers and condolences to family and friends. 😒

I just found out that Jim passed away this morning, 3/20/23. One of his children posted the following on FB:

Jim and I grew up together on Atlas Avenue off of Franklin Blvd. in South Sacto. Lived two houses apart.  Many fond memories of birthday and Halloween parties. Enjoyed reading Jim's sports columns in the old Sacramento Union and then the Sacramento Bee newspaper and seeing Jim and his wife at many of our class of '60 reunions. I talked to Jim shortly before last Christmas and we decided we'd get together for lunch sometime this Spring. I had posted a follow up note on my electronic calendar to call Jim the first of April to setup lunch. I guess the message to all of us at our ages is "Don't wait, do things now while you can." So sorry and sad to get this news.

Godspeed, Jim

Your old friend,

Lee
