Rick was well-known for his dedication to his family's business. Rick owned and operated Longshores Luggage. Rick was a great friend in high school.  Sometimes when he visited Mike Miller up the street from me, they would come by to visit.  He had a fun sense of humor so I remember lots of laughs.  We somtimes communicated when he lived in Hawaii, mostly to see how Mike Miller was doing since he was my friend since we were four years old, and I have not heard from Mike in years.  Rest in peace dear Rick.  Your old buddy, Carol Misterly Boice

I was a year or more younger than most of our class.  My family moved into the neighborhood of the school after our sophomore year.  I had almost no friends, and felt very much the "outsider."  One day while I was walking to school, I passed Rick and a group of his life-long buddies, all members of the elite.  All Rick did was to say out loud, "Hey, it's Emley: good man!"   In that instant, he made my life so much more pleasant.   I have always remembered that moment and his kindness.   Rick Longshore:  good man!  20 years on Maui was surely a fitting reward.

Rick lived right around the corner form me and we were close friends since we were 10 years old and roommates at Cal.  We kept in touch through the years and I will miss him.  RIP, Rick.
