Shep, one of my most memorable moments playing high school baseball was with you (even though you were on the track team). You were on your way to the track and stopped to talk near 3rd base during batting practice. I wasn't paying attention when a hot line drive came at you. As you said watch out, I turned and caught the ball next to your head. With a big smile, you said, "Thanks for that!" Well, Shep, I never made a more important catch.
Chuck was a great athlete and a great friend. Gibby Gonsolis, John Craner and Chuck and I spent many weekends camping at Lake Tahoe trying to meet the girls. It was a fun time.
In 1964, in the early spring, Chuck and his dad decided to run the rapids in canoes above Auburn. They had just put in the high water when Chuck's canoe struck a piling from a recently washed out bridge. Chuck's dad finally found him three days later.
I believe Chuck had a son, who has not survived to this day and also his wife is deceased.
