OMG, so sorry to hear about Gene's passing. I've often wondered what happened to him, I don't believe he ever attended any of the class reunions. I became friends with Gene thru a close friend of mine named Darryl Alvarnaz, Darryl was in the McClatchy Class of 1961. The three of us pal'd around a bit in junior high and high school days, Gene and Darryl both were heavily into cool cars at that time. Darryl was the only one of us who had money, as a result of his Sacto Bee newspaper delivery route, and he bought a '32 Ford coupe to turn it into a hot rod. He also bought a wrecked '54 Oldsmobile to get the V-8 engine and tranny out of it for the hot rod, Gene and I helped Darryl lift the body off the chasis, stripped and primed the body and frame of the coupe, pulled the engine and tranny out of the Olds, etc. The project came to a sudden end when Darryl ran out of money, his mom got tired of the mess of car parts in the driveway, Gene and I discovered girls and we all went our own ways. <LOL> Gene lived on Harte Way directly across the street from Joaquin Miller Jr. High. I remember he was a nice guy, quiet, guy of few words but fun to be around. Sorry we lost touch, Gene. Godspeed.
