In Memory

James Astin

James Astin

This came from Lee Bunyard (August 2024):

"FYI-I just found out from one of Jim's sons, Mike, that Jim passed away during the Christmas season last year. Jim never attended any of the class reunions so probably won't be remembered by very many of our classmates.I believe he was on the McClatchy and Sacto City College baseball teams. I'm going to post a note on his profile."

Unfortunately, Jim never registered his Profile on our reunion website.

If anyone finds his obituary would you please send us a link?
:-)

Jim and I were nearby neighbors in rural El Dorado County for over 45 years, he bought his acreage and built his house about a year before I did.  In the early years, Jim and I used to go to the National Forest near Pollock Pines to cut firewood for the winter.  Jim and his wife Linda had two boys, Ronny and Mike, and a daughter, Jenny. His younger son Mike and my son Craig grew up together, childhood friends and classmates.  IIRC, Jim was a hydro engineer for SMUD at their facility at Fresh Pond near Hiway 50 above Placerville.  So far as I know, Jim never attended any of the Class of '60 reunions, I've attended all but two of the reunions, on a couple of occasions before the early reunions, I called Jim up, told him the reunions were fun and encouraged him to attend, he said he had no interest in it so I finally gave it up.  I believe Jim was on the McClatchy and Sacto City College baseball teams.  Jim was kind of a loner, a good guy, I always liked him and we got along well.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I'll contact his son Mike and find out if an obituary was published.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Godspeed, Jim.

I am happy to say that I was a good friend and teammate of Jim Astin. I played Little League baseball with Jim in the early 50's, than again at McClatchy during the late 50's, and then was a teammate for a couple of years in the 1980's on a team in the Sacramento Men's Senior Baseball League. Jim was an outstanding pitcher,  gentleman, and human being.  Val Lewis

I missed Jim's passing, so pardon the late comment.  Like Val, Jim and I played little league baseball and high school football and baseball tofgether and were good friends.  He was a wonderful person and a fine player, better than me at football.  I wondered about him but never found him listed among our Classmates until running across his In Memory notification.  I had hoped to see him at the reunion.

Jim was a true friend and I regret not seeing him for so many years before his passing.
