I’m about to retire after 43 years in the profession of higher education administration. Some of my areas of responsibility included university registrar, enrollment management, NCAA compliance, admissions and recruiting, student systems project management, and institutional reporting.

After leaving MLS, I spent one year at Northwestern Lutheran College, then transferred to Michigan State and completed my Bachelors in American History and Education. After a couple years of junior high teaching and coaching, I returned to Michigan State and earned a Masters in College Student Personnel Administration. I will be retiring in June from California State University Sacramento after 11 years as University Registrar.

Along the way, I married Karen Sue Bickel (Mark Bickel’s sister) and we will celebrate our 47th anniversary this fall. We have two grown children, Sarah and Zachary, and a son-in-law, Skot.

Over the years, my job has taken us to some fun and exciting places. We moved from Michigan to Denver, Colorado, to Arcata, California, then Long Island, New York, and Washington, DC. Next stop was Monterey and we currently live in Sacramento, California, about an hour from each of our children.

I’ve always been active in our church and served on numerous church councils, served as elder, and have been active in student ministry. We love spending time with our kids, traveling, spending time with friends, and taking advantage of wine-tasting in California’s many vineyards. In recent years, we’ve been blessed to travel to Europe and are looking forward to more travels with retirement almost here.

Retirement is really going to happen -- whatever that means... ;-)

Education continues to be very important... from teaching Junior High - American History - Geography - Civics to Coaching: football, baseball, wrestling, weight-lifting; Junior High Counselor; Higher Education and administrative positions supporting students, faculty and administration and presenting innovative student systems at national and regional conferences; and supporting international and domestic student ministries with our local churches.
