Ok ok, I enjoyed the updates from many of you so I'll give it a shot.
After South, I went to the U of O (Go Ducks!). The first day there I received a notice about the rowing team and continued my life-long interest in sport and fitness. Oops, now my body is paying the price!
In '72 I worked as an intern in Congress. My first week was the Watergate break-in, I turned 21, and I met my future wife, Char!
They say join the Marines and see the world. After graduation, I did. In the first year we were stationed in 6 states & it went from there. Unbelievably, Char stayed with me for 3 years of active duty, 17 years in reserves, and now we're at 46 years together & still counting. Meanwhile we had a amazing time raising two fabulous daughters, Sarah & Elizabeth.
After active duty, I received an MBA from Willamette and started working in state government. Being kind of a numbers guy, I worked the first half of my career in finance, eventually as State Budget Director. In the second half I worked in Facilities and Transportation. In that phase I started teaching part-time in the Willamette MBA program and continued for 20 years. It gave me a whole new appreciation for you educators!
In retirement, I've enjoyed serving on several board & commissions, especially one non-profit that teaches leadership in the Middle East. That experience left me with concern for the future of the region but hope & faith in its wonderful people.
Char says I'm failing retirement but the greatest part for me is grandkids. We have four. For this and so much more, I feel blessed.
