Penny was one of those rare &  truly beautiful people both, inside and out.  She was always kind to all, no matter what "crowd" you hung out with.  When I think back to our classmates, Penny always comes to mind and brings a smile to my face.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family & friends.

I knew Penny in one class our senior year. We never talked until we graduated and hit it off senior skip days at the coast. We dated the entire summer, went up to the family cabin on the Little North Santiam many times after the swing shift at Del Monte.

She was a quiet rebel, smart and a kidder. Stole my lunch from my truck at Del Monte and thought it funny I was put out.

We went off to college and our own ways the end of summer. I will always have a place in my heart for her.

I was so sorry to see Penny has left us. I met her in the 5th grade and our houses were in the same direction so we sometimes walked home together. My family moved out south and I didn't see her until I went to South in my Junior and Senior years. Terry is right, she was ALWAYS kind. We shared a class but were not a part of the same crowd. She remembered me and shared her stories of France with her father and family, and always smiled at me in the class we shared. It was funny what she said about her "thoughts" in her remarks "what should I wear tomorrow"! I always wanted to see what she was wearing !! She had her own style and was so beautiful you had to see what was going on with her!! I agree she was beautiful inside and out. This leaving was too soon and too young. My prayers and blessings to her family and friends.

I was so saddened by this news.    I am thankful I was able to visit with Penny at the last reunion where she danced and enjoyed herself with classmates.  It was a treat to see her after so many years.  We used to swim together in our younger days.  She came from a powerful swimming family so she was always better than I.  We first met in 4th grade at McKinley grade school.  Penny's on the far right of the photo below from 2009 SSHS Re-union weekend.

Penny was always her own person with a beautiful smile and soft, intelligent eyes and manner.  She was a Montessori teacher for years.  Googling about her, I was not surprised to find that she was an original owner in a co-housing community in Chico for over 20 years.  She was someone who truly lived her idealism.  As I recall, she went to college in Chico at Pacific University, already knowing her own mind by age 18.

I forget how old her son is, probably out of college by now.  My heart goes out to him and her husband and family.  Also to Debrah Walker for the loss of her good friend.  We all know that Penny left the world a better place by her presence and example.

The loss of Penny saddens me. I was Debbie’s roommate my freshman year in college and met Penny through her. She had a way of looking at you that really took you in. Thoughtful, mindful, fiercely intelligent. She will be missed.

I also remember Penny with smiles.  We'd known each other since days at McKinley through high school.  She was someone you could count on.  We reconnected in '09 and shared some great memories as well as catching up on life since.  Holding each of those memories dear.

I knew Penny from McKinley Elementary through Leslie and South.  We shared classes together on and off through the years and were friendly, though not close friends.  I’ve found it is a rare thing in life to know someone who always treats me with kindness and respect.  Penny was one of those few people that I’ve known in my life about whom I can say that.  Even though it was decades ago, I still feel the effects of having known her.  I didn’t see her again after high school until one of the reunions, maybe the 20th or 25th and she seemed just the same.  I was fortunate enough to exchange a few e-mails with her just a few years ago through this website and to let her know that my life is better for having known her.  Her family and close friends must miss her profoundly.  I always have and always will remember Penny with great fondness.

Because our last names were so close, we took the SAT at the same table at South. I am sad that she is no longer with us. At the last reunion I saw her, I talked to her about losing her father. It is really sad that she passed away at such a relatively young age. We only had a few classes together, mainly French. Rest in Peace.
