I knew Leslie in high school. She lived on the edge. She liked driving her dad's Camaro fast! When she ate, she liked chilli and donuts!

I saw her a few times after high school. Once downtown when I was nine months pregnant with my first child; and Leslie was crossing the crosswalk coming toward me. We both just laughed and jump up and down!

The last time I saw her was at Fred Meyers. I said "Hi Leslie?", I thought it was her, it was. She had cancer, now she was trying to eat right, and exercise. She told me not to wait until it is too late to start taking care of yourself.

Here is a rose for Leslie ... and forget your woes!

Leslie and I were fast friends in junior high.  One summer evening (maybe in 1065) a bunch of girlfriends gathered at Leslie's lovely home in Candelaria.  Her mother made all the arrangements and, although not much love was lost between Leslie's mother and me, it is a night I will never forget.  We laid on her back lawn in sleeping bags, chatting the way junior high girls will do; discussing the Beatles, guys at school, and lip gloss.  All of a sudden, we caught our collective breath at a shooting star; then, one-after-one stars fell until the sky was awash with shooting lights.  It was a meteor shower as I have never witnessed before or since.  When I didn't see Leslie at the twenty year reunion, I wrote her a letter (you remember those -- with a stamp) and asked her to thank her mother for that night.  Leslie wrote back, reporting that she passed on my thanks, and her mother responded that she had always like me.
