Aug 24, 1952 – Sep 20, 2025
Jocelyn “Cissy” Greene Monroe passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Jocelyn is remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and took great joy supporting, organizing, and caring for everyone. She loved to play golf, tennis, and coach tennis but most of all, enjoyed being with her family. She was and is the family’s “North Star.”
Jocelyn was born on August 24, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah to her parents, Orrin and Joyce Greene. Jocelyn was born into a “tennis family” and spent many hours hitting tennis balls at the Cottonwood Club and participating in local tennis tournaments. Jocelyn’s proficiency and love for tennis led to her competing in the Regional and Junior National Tournaments, as well as reaching the collegiate level, where she played briefly at BYU.
Jocelyn attended Oakwood Elementary, Bonneville Junior High School, and graduated from Olympus High School. Jocelyn was extremely social, likable, and very involved in organizing school activities. As a result, she was elected Student Body Secretary of both Junior High School and High School.
Jocelyn married her childhood sweetheart, Jeff Monroe, on August 25, 1972. In 1974, they moved to Indiana for Jeff’s enrollment in the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine. Jocelyn supported her family by working as a staff member for Purdue University, then as a tennis pro at Lafayette Country Club, and finally as the first head coach for Purdue University Women’s Tennis Team.
Following Jeff’s graduation, the family moved to Nampa, Idaho. Once again, Jocelyn started a tennis program. She taught and coached her two daughters, and numerous junior tennis players. She was up at the crack of dawn teaching tennis lessons so she could be home later in the day to maintain a loving and supportive home environment for her family.
After ten years in Idaho, the family returned to Salt Lake City, Utah. Jocelyn went back to college in search of a new passion. Going back to school at thirty-nine years of age with two teenage daughters was tough, but she was able to manage it with grace and hard work. Jocelyn applied for and was accepted into the U of U School of Physical Therapy, resulting in her becoming a licensed Physical Therapist. For the next 30+ years, she poured her heart and soul into helping and impacting people. She started her physical therapy career in a Nursing Home Facility and found her niche at the IHC Hearing and Balance Center. Jocelyn found great reward in helping patients with inner ear and balance issues. She not only treated her patients, but also cared for them as friends, many times treating patients on her day off and at home. Her enormous heart-felt love was her gift.
Jocelyn is survived by her husband Jeff, her daughter Emily Jones (Chris), her daughter Lexi Diedrich (Mason), her grandson Rylan Jones, her granddaughter Rendi Jones, her sister Marjorie “Molly” Hahn (Peter), her brother Stewart “Skip” Greene (DeAnne), and her brother Roger Greene (Nancy).

I am so saddened to hear of Jocelyn's passing. We missed her and Jeff at our reunion in August. I loved being her friend and she was loved by so many. I have memories of her family and being in their home for parties and slumber party's. I also tried to play tennis at the Cottonwood Clib with friends and her sister Molly was our coach. Such wonderful memories. Cissy was always laughing her contagious laugh and so up beat positive and fun. She served us all as Studentbody officer at Bonneville and Olympus. My deepest condolences to Jeff her girls. I know she will be missed. Love this sweet, life long dear friend. ❤️

This moment is as sad as Cissy brought happiness to others. She was always smiling and laughing. I will never forget playing tennis with her at the Cottonwood Club. I always tried to play with her as I could never beat her.
I am sure that she is bringing joy to those that she is around in heaven. That's just Jocelyn. Joy.

Jocelyn had the gift of bringing joy! She had a knack for making everyone feel special. After high school I lost touch with her until a few years ago when my mother became one of her patients at the balance center. Jocelyn was amazing at what she did and helped my mother immensely. Mom absolutely adored her. Jocelyn was truly an amazing person! She will be missed so much!

It was a blessing to know Cissy and work with her. She was a light and a strength in all that we did as student body officers. My prayers are with Jeff and the rest of the family.

I met Cissy in 10th grade when we were class officers. The first time I saw her she was smiling and laughing, and I couldn't resist smiling and laughing too. Everything we did as class officers Cissy made better, and she had the rare gift of making everyone around her feel better too. She was a real gem, and I was lucky to have known her. My sincerest condolences to Jeff and the family.

Cissy was such a great friend in 9th grade at Bonneville through to our senior year at Oly. She and Jeff, and Wade and I had such great times together from "jeeping" up over Guardsman Pass to parties at the Cottonwood Club. She brightened up the halls of Olympus High with her bright smile and delightful laugh. (Cis got her laugh from her mom) We lost track of she and Jeff when we began college, but would catch up on their lives from her brother, Skip, when we served with him in the Salt Lake Temple. She will be part of my best memories forever.

Cissy is one of our classmates who stands out for her consistent happy and positive attitude. This trait became a blessing for my 98 year old father as Cissy worked with him in the IHC Hearing and Balance Clinic. Her skills, desire to help others, and fun personality helped my dad in the therapy he needed following a fall which broke his back. It was a lot of fun for me to re-connect with Cissy as well as observe her in this healing environement. Warm wishes to Jeff and family..
