Skyline High School was a marvelous place to be during the middle 60’s. Dad died shortly before I entered as a freshman, so part time employment was a necessary privilege. Worked at Canyon Rim AG on the weekends, and for a furniture mover after school. (the truck occasionally picked me up) At 123 pounds, was quickly “cut” from the football team, yet enjoyed running track where a remarkable group did win Skyline’s first State Championship. Never distinguished in English, yet enjoyed Math, Chemistry, and Music. Certainly not a mover or a shaker, but had genuinely wonderful friends. Bird, Gilbert and Fernandez were influential teachers. I usually walked to school, and occasioned Shores’ Dairy Queen, Fred's Burger Chalet, and the Village Bakery. Regrets – sure, a few; memories – still bring a smile; overall – feelings of gratitude.
