Since leaving Terra Linda High, I attended College of Marin and San Francisco State, where I majored in Journalism.
While going to college (I was on the 7-year plan), I got a job at the Marin IJ, where I worked as a sports writer for eight years. I covered everything from Little League to major pro sporting events. During my last three years at the IJ, I was a beat reporter covering the San Francisco 49ers.
Suffering a major case of job burnout, I left the IJ in 1988. Confused and not knowing what to do, I followed my passion for screenwriting and filmmaking to Vancouver, B.C. I attended the Vancouver Film School for 10 months, where I learned just about every aspect of filmmaking. It was an intense experience.
After leaving Vancouver, I returned to the Bay Area, where there was little or no jobs in the film community. And I wasn't ready to go to Los Angeles. So I worked as a temp for a number of years. I did get a chance to work at Lucasfilm on a few occasions. Very cool!
Currently, I am working as a psychiatric peer case aide at Community Action Marin/Marin Community Mental Health Services. I co-facilitate four support groups and also independently socialize several clients. It's a very rewarding job. And I love my clients.
I haven't given up my flimmaking dreams. I've written six "independent-like" feature scripts. And I'm currently working on a seventh feature that is more "commercial." I've also recently written/directed two short films and hope to make more with some of my filmmaking friends in the near future.
So, life's good. I can't complain.
Looking forward to seeing you soon. Hope the years have been good to you as well.
Peace.
