Karen Keene Shaffer

Married my high school sweetheart (graduate of shs class of 1981), in 1982. Still together and we have raised two wonderful sons - both of whom are away at college this year. We Have always lived in Sarasota, and our boys went to some of the same schools that we both did. Bowling is a big part of our lives - we are both in leagues, travel to tournaments, and even are both certified coaches. For the past 16 years we have coached and ran the youth bowling program at Sarasota Lanes. Family is important, and the boys keep in touch regularly.

The first fall I spent at SHS, I dislocated my knee on the tennis courts, during the tennis class. I had to wear a long-leg brace, and run around on crutches for 6 long months. I had many special friends to help carry my books all over campus, and up and down three flights of stairs in the old school building. It was an awkward way to start my high school years, but some of those friends are still friends today.
