My latest letter to the editor in the Cleveland Plain Dealer ..

During these times when some are feeling emotional turmoil, I was elated to find a treasure in Cleveland, which gave me comfort.

Neighborhood Pets Outreach & Resource Center closes the circle for companion animals who need a home and underserved people who need help providing their pets with food and veterinary care. Animals are off the street and out of the bulging kennels.

I feel grateful to be able to financially contribute to this nonprofit organization. I believe this is what it’s all about -- taking care of each other.

post note: This is a fantastic non profit to help financially!

My LTE in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer ... To counter the hate, we need to practice kindness every moment of the day

My grandma Lena was buried in a cemetery on Brooklyn’s Ridge Road that was recently defaced with swastikas. I felt like I was burying my beloved grandma all over again.

Prejudice is happening around the globe. This is a reminder that we are a community and are here to support each other. As I seek greater understanding, I ask myself, “What can each person do -- today?”

When walking down the street, greet others with a smile, a wave or a “Hi.” I ask people to think before speaking. Are the words hurtful? If so, count to ten and then change your message.

At the end of each day, look back and ask, “Was I kind to everyone?” Maybe, just maybe, we’ll all learn to embrace each other as we share time and a mutual space.

My mother started a project at Fairmount Temple making educational dolls - stitch by stitch. When it was timely, Nancy took over. The doll group were wonderful souls, who made over 1,000 dolls offered to children in shelters. Hopefully Nancy and my mom will continue the project on the other side.

In my position as Senior Advisor to Sierra Club's Pollination Protection Program, I invite all to my free event, "Next Silent Spring?" at the Cleveland Museum of Art, on Sunday, April 28, from 2 - 4 PM. Rachel Carson raised the red flag years ago. Pesticides were not only killing insects, but also disrupting the delicate balance of nature. Now history is repeating itself.
