Marisa Manley (Manley)

Greetings all:

Marisa Manley here, I will be attending for Ludlow and must, of course, agree with Seth Berner's rating of our school.

T-shirts are looking good.  Thanks to Ellen for the design.

And now, a question.  I am looking for a 5 - 8 mile run on Saturday morning in reasonable proximity to the Beechwood hotel.

I'd appreciate recommendations for the local crowd -- anything around the lakes, etc.?

Thanks!

Marissa, I don't know if you can beat the Cuyahoga Valley Towpath for a beautiful run!  You can check out the National Park Setvice maps here:  https://www.nps.gov/cuva/planyourvisit/maps.htm. Particularly if the weather cooperates...!  Anyone who enjoys a nice walk, hike, or run should check it out.  And of course if you'd like to check out the old neighborhood, Shaker Heights has some trails listed here:  https://www.shakerheightsoh.gov/256/Bikes-Hikes  and the Beachwood TrailLink offers these https://www.traillink.com/city/beachwood-oh-trails/

As requested....the Lomond song...   i

i am proud of Lomond ,   Is Lomond proud of me?   What she needs are boys and girls trained in loyalty   when we work,   When we play,  with our schoolmates here...good citizens we will be    So. I'll be proud, be proud of Lomond school and I'll make her proud of me

Or something like that....

Second verse of the Mercer song:  We always will remember; the lessons you have taught; to be brave and courageous; in deed, word and thought.  All hail to dear Mercer; our pride and our joy; we will ever be proud of; each girl and boy.

Wow, Anita and Julie, I hope you had the song written somewhere. Otherwise, I'm blown away by your memory of it! While my allegiances were split in childhood, with most of my elementary years at Mercer, then spending 6th grade at Onaway, and so junior high at Woodbury, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone able to attend our 50th.

Yay, Julie, for the rest of the Mercer lyrics! Actually, Karen, they are hard-wired to my brain. I had forgotten you moved before 6th grade, my Bestie! Looking forward to seeing you both at the reunion.

Hard to believe I do not recall any of those lyrics.  Will miss seeing everyone, just am removing from hip surgery.  Fifty years, looking forward to reading more posts and seeing photos.

Cary's message from July reminded me of Project Discovery (the projectors, the films, the filmstrips).  And that reminded me that Encyclopedia Britannica Films came to Mercer to make a film about Project Discovery and us (at least the Mercerites among us).  That film, in its entirety, lives in the Wayback Machine (archive.org/details/project_discovery).  Or you can just search for "project discovery mercer school."  As nostolgia trips go, it is way up on the list.  (Thanks to Mark Fleischer for finding the film.)

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Thank you so much for posting the wayback machine link to the film about Project Discovery, Bruce. This is such a gift, an amazing time capsule and historical document (to channel Galaxy Quest), and so awesome to appreciate our being the kids at the beginning of the use of film in education. What a joy to watch!

Fernway and Woodbury folks: FYI, my plus one is my cousin, Sue Linsey! While she didn't go to SHHS, she went to Fernway and Woodbury. I know she's looking forward to seeing everyone.

Does anyone know if Shaker will be playing a football game the weekend we are there? I've been living in the desert for the past 13 years. I do miss the Metroparks. Can't wait to go for a hike while I'm there.

Can anyone tell me where reunion attendees who are not coming to Friday night's event can pick up their badges and tee shirt? Will they be at SHHS for the Saturday morning tour or at Van Aiken for the luncheon get-together? If not, will they be available at the Saturday night gala? No mention of this in the instructions sent out. Thank you.

I will not be attending the 1974 Class Reunion.  This past winter, I had a hip replacement and I just don't feel up to dealing with the airport and the airplane ride.  I know all of you will have a great time seeing each other again. I look forward to seeing all the pictures.

Enjoy.

Peggy, we will have the badges and t-shirts at the Van Aken District on Saturday afternoon.  Let me know if you aren't attending that but are attending the tour... we can pull yours out and bring it with us!  The only reason we aren't passing them out at the high school is that we'll be pushed for time.  The conversation with Laura will start promptly at 10!

After reading one of these posts, I realized it would be a great idea to get vaccinated, so I had my flu & covid shots today. Thanks for the brilliant idea!

Greetings all:  Rueunion is almost here!  I am thinking about visiting the art museum Saturday afternoon -- after the meet-up at Van Aken.  If anyone has thoughts, recommendations or would like to meet up there as well, let me know.

Hi,

I realize that this may be a late request,  but any chance I can get another ticket for my husband Saturday evening?

Thanks,
