I remember Ann's positive attitude and joyful personality. She was always so happy and loved life and the people in our class.

I have a mental image of Ann sitting on one of those little benches that ran around the wall in the girls' locker room in the gym. Freshman P.E. class had just ended, and we were all laughing and rushing to try to get out of those ugly blue gymsuits and make it to the next class on time. I can even hear Ann's laugh when I think of those days.

When I think of Ann, I smile. We were friends in nursery school and became best friends in the seventh grade. What a blessing to have such a “free spirit” in my “way too serious” life. We would talk, laugh and then talk for hours more; everything was fun when we were together. We were the same only different, we were sisters by choice. We were always first to defend and first to pick at the other. Being asked to tell her son about her death was so hard, but also a privilege to be able to share with him some of our special and fun times, most of all how very special I knew his Mother and my friend was.
