Some of you were talking about Coach Yancey earlier, there is one memory that stands out about him. We were in P.E. playing volleyball in the gym, Yancey was sitting in a chair leaned back against the wall next to the door that went into his office. We had a game going on and Aubrey Sambola was up to serve, need I say more. It was one of those moments when you knew something was going to happen before it did, Aubrey hit the ball straight up, I mean straight up. You couldn't have done it any better if you tried 100 times. Anyway the ball went up and hit one of the lights hanging down from the ceiling, pieces of bulb went everywhere. Coach Yancey just sit there and looked at Aubrey Who looked like somebody waiting on a firing squad, finally after what seemed like forever Coach Yancey said distgustedly " Aubrey sit down over there" don't seem as funny telling it. You just had to have been there.

Jody - I'd love to have a copy (or digital scan) of one of your Kiss posters. Be a great addition to my collection of Sheridan nostalgia.

Hey Justin, I spent a day with my family at The Denver Aquarium. Very cool place with sealife and a cool restaurant. We ate dinner and I had A Gulf Coast Platter. Thought of you buddy while I enjoyed it! Shrimp, Oysters, Crab and Catfish! Just wanted you to know! As I dug in, I kinda saluted with my fork and said "Justin would be proud!" It was good, but I am sure the fish you eat are a little more on the fresh side! Seafood at 5280 ft. is expensive! Okay, I miss the South!

PS. Jon Paul you pegged Joe Yancey totally. He was so bland until he got mad! And then, everyone was scared! I remember talking my way out of a paddling just for playing four square in the wrong place in the gym. I had to sit on the bleachers for a couple of days, but I was totally scared of getting swatted by him. Talk about a penalty that was out of proportion for the crime! Maybe I was a wimp!

Speaking of paddlings. Does anyone remember Coach Gossett.
I think he was into the S&M side of being a teacher.

Chuck, I hear you! we had some good seafood Saturday night at a Mardi Gras ball, I bet it is expensive out there! you can not beat good fresh seafood! If you ever decide that you need a care package let me know! :) I survived a a$$ whooping from coach Yancey it changed my whole out look on him because i thought he was a cool easy going guy and found out you do not want to piss him off those gym shorts do nothing to stop the pain! Remember Mr. Hooten science 8th grade, James Lybrand, I think it was Kerry Haley and myself skip his class told him it was a track meet i think, but he found out and gave us a choice of a report on the periodicity chart or 3 licks? we all chose the licks, James went first, after the 1st one i was up out of the desk with my hand up saying i changed my mind i will do the report, he hit James so hard that he climbed up on top of his high boy desk screaming! James was a big boy and i weighed about 100 pounds never skipped his class again!

Vicki where you been we have missed you???????

02/24/09 11:25 AM #1805

Jody Lowery (1986)

Justin- I was in on the big track meet scam. I remember before Mr. Hooten doled out the punishment I went up to him and said I wanted to inspect his paddle. so he pulls out this piece of thin wall trim and as I'm acting like I was inspecting it I accidentally broke it, well, I could feel my heart about to beat out of my chest! Of course Mr. Hooten being all stoic and all, slowly opened his desk drawer and he had about 50 of those things in there. All he said was " Mr. Lowery, its your lucky day". I've never been paddled so hard in my life!

Jody Lowery (1986)

remember how Mr. Hooten would hide in that closet with the glass window that had paper taped over it. It had a little bity hole and he would peek out and watch us. You never knew if he was watching!

Justin James (1986)

Jody, I had him last period dont really remember who all was in on it but i know i changed my mind fast! know days you cant pay them to whip your child, I tried and they laughed at me! My theory is if its bad enough to call me them it is deserving of a good old fashion butt whipping! Hey it builds character and if done right makes you see that person in a different light!

Funny story about the Iron Fisted Schrader. They call the filter pond (for the sewer system) behind the East End Elementary Schrader Lake. Gotta love it!

I haven't heard the name Gordy Atchley in a loooooong time.

02/24/09 11:22 PM #1809

Jody Lowery (1986)

David- Me and Gordy were really good buddies. He was really my first friend from East End when East Enders made the move to Sheridan. While I was away at college he would still stop by and visit my parents. I still think of him often.

Chuck Schwartz (1985)

In 4th grade Gordy and I were practically inseperable. I got into alot of trouble that year! LOL! And for whatever reason I think Schrader had it in for me. I was always in his office! Whatever happened to Gordy or Schrader? I feel like I have lived in a fog or something! A question for you East Enders. Does anyone remember the "Foxhole" out in centerfield of the old baseball field? Not the T-Ball field but the big field.

02/25/09 10:18 AM #1811

Jody Lowery (1986)

Chuck- Gordy died around 88 or 89 I think. Car accident.I wasn't around then and I regret it

" Mr. Lowery, its your lucky day". Now THAT'S funny right there!

David Fort (1989)

Was Dana his little sister? I have trouble remembering. Must be the 20 years since I have seen or heard these names. haha. I don't remember a hole in the ball field. I am sad that they don't use those fields anymore. They built a new ball park over off of Cole Ln. I remember going in the woods behind the tee ball field to recover baseballs so I could get free "suicides" at the concession stand.

JB Hooten was a funny guy. I don't think intentionally though.

02/25/09 10:31 AM #1815

Mark Avant (1985)

Dana was Gordy's sister. I just remember Gordy being a little on the mischievious side.

David Fort (1989)

Oh yeah, Schrader is still around. He shows up occasionally. My wife works with the new EEE principal. Mark Rash is the anti-Schrader I think. A really nice guy. He's the one who told me about the Schrader lake thing. LOL!

02/25/09 10:37 AM #1817

David Fort (1989)

Yeah, the Atchley clan was like that. I remember Dana being a little mean spirited.

I didnt know that Gordy had passed, Once we all went our seperate ways i guess you miss hearing things like that!

I have a lot of great memories of Gordy. He was one of those kids no one messed with. He and I used to go down to Mary Lake and fish all the time. Here is another old name you guys might remember. Timmy Warner. I still talk to him occasionally. He has made a big change in his life. He went to siminary school and i beleive currently is a youth minister. Chuck, you may have played on his dads Baseball team with us not sure. Warner Construction.

I spent many a summer day "catching" in Mary Lake. I don't call it fishing because it was too easy. Those fish act like they had never seen a hook. Too many stories to tell there. The one that sticks out in my mind the most is when Shane Horton and I were fishing one day, we had a nice stringer of bass. We tied them to one of the D rings on the old bridge in the back and continued to fish around the far side. When we came back, there was nothing left of the fish except the heads on the stringer. The turtles wiped us out in a matter of minutes!

Me and Gordy climbed that water tower at Marylake many times
