I had enlisted in the Army before graduating. I entered active duty June 5, 1980. Upon graduating from training was assigned to Ft. Campbell, KY. After about 1 year there, I married Julie and 3 months later she was pregnant. About 1/3 into the pregnancy I was reassigned to Germany. I was there until she gave birth and was returned home and reassigned back to Ft Campbell. I stayed there until 1990. I attended Drill Sergeant School and was reassigned as a Drill Sergeant in GA. I had requested, but it was denied, to leave Drill Sergeant duty in support of the Gulf War. After 2 years of that returned to Ft. Campbell. I spent another 3 years at Ft Campbell and was sent to Schoefield Barracks, Hawaii. I spent a 5 years in the islands. While we were assigned to Hawaii, Nicole met her future husband Sean. Some of the best times and most fun. I was sent to West Point, NY after that. Four months later Nicole married Sean at West Point. Sean went back to Hawaii and to make arrangements to move Nicole there too. A month after arriving in Hawaii she was pregnant. While I was at West Point I took college classes at night. Before 9/11, I was taking 3 classes every 6 weeks. I was considered a full time student and soldier. I had to take a break after 9/11. In 2001, I got Sean rerassigned to West Point, I pulled some strings in the Pentagon. They arrived at West Point April 2002. I retired May 2003, 23 years. I packed Julie and Cory up and brought them back to Kentucky. I stayed with Sean and Nicole to finish my accounting degree. I watched Jordan during the day, while they worked and went to class at night. I finished my studies in December. I left the day after Christmas and came back to Kentucky. I returned for graduation ceremony in May 2004. I worked 3 weeks in a powdercoating factory, 6 months as as assistant manger for a convience store, then worked for 8 months as a computer repair/tech. In February 2005, I was hired by the Auditor of Public Accounts, and office in the state of Kentucky. The office annually audits public officials. I have been doing that ever since. When Sean left West Point, he was assigned to Korea for a year and then to Ft Campbell. I swear I had nothing to do with that assignment, but there are some folks who don't believe me.
Those of you worried about all the children leaving, let me tell you it is great. It does take time to get used to. We live about 30 minutes from Ft Campbell, we go there and get Jordan for the weekend. We would get Aydan after he got older. This past April, Sean was transfered to Ft Carson, which is just south of Colorado Springs.
I build and repair computers, write web pages, and do taxes on the side. I will eventually open my own business to do that full time.
