What a fun reunion weekend!!  Thank you to all that traveled....us Sioux City kids really appreciate it:)   One thing I noticed was that reunions are more tiring as we get older!  Please stay healthy and happy so we can all get together in 2019......love you all and thanks for all the great memories!

I am all for Reggie's idea of a traveling reunion.  The only problem is that I'm not retired yet, and won't be for about another 4 years.  Once a year would be all I could muster and get away for, but long distances will always cut into my budget.

I would be on the agenda for a Chicago trip in 2015 or the year after.  Find out how the first one goes and then slot me in for #2.  Chicago has so much going on that just sitting in the back yard having some brewskies would be a waste of time for a trip this far.  We've got 4 major league ball teams here as well as first rate opera, museums and blues clubs.  Lots to do but I usually only get to them when others are coming into town.  On the plus side, Claudia is a great planner and organizer and is off from her teaching job during the summers.  Of course Claudia knows nothing of this yet, but keep me in mind.

The reunion was a great time and the casino fit in well.  Good to see everyone, even some at the casino.

Ed

Had a wonderful time, thanks to everybody that attended. Both nights were great and yes anytime anyplace I'm in. Great to play golf with Dick, Jim and Jim, so sorry to hear about Jim's medical condition and he had found help for that, I know it's not easy to talk about those things, but he was very open. God Bless and hope we are all there in 5 years

This has been a sad week. Mary (Schneiders) Gillis left us all with a hole in our hearts on Monday, August 15th.  It is a tough truth to accept. We lived across the street from each other. Became best friends, going through 12 yrs of school and many many special memories throughout our lives. She was such a gentle soul and I was blessed to share in her life. Sending my love and prayers to Mary and her family.

So sorry to hear about the passing of John Bockholt. We went all through St. Joe grade school together as well as Heelan. I saw John at a Heelan graduation party for his niece at the old public museum on Jackson Street two years ago and he was upbeat and the same old John. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with John and his family.    Joe Conlon

I, too, remember John starting with our years at St. Joe. We had a great class that went on to Heelan. Those were the days! May he now Rest In Peace.

Sad to hear about John Bockholt. He was so much fun. Rarely, do you find someone as happy and kind as John. He was liked and loved by many. RIP, John. You are missed.

Thanks to Stan, Chrissy, Eva and Jim and Julie and Dick (along with the man who could have been Jay leno (Ed Agnes, MC for 50-year reunion).  It is nice that Jim and Dick took time to do this which had to take away from their time playing poker (as they often did in HS - remember Frienchie's games?), pinball and pool (recall Golden Tables?).  Anyway, thanks to all of you for stepping up to help make this happen.  Looking forward to it.  Mark Packard

I've attended each of the class reunions ending in zero, but this year will bring that to an end. I had considered attending but sometimes life decides otherwise for you. But, I wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate all of you who have made it this far and hope you have a great time at the reunion. Thank you to Pam and her committee for making this happen. Heelan brings back a lot of memories, mostly good ones I'm pleased to say. In thinking back 50 years, I wondered how we would compare with the faculty in 1969. So, I picked Fr. Elbert, the Superintendent. In my mind, I thought he was probably in his 50's, maybe 60 back then. It was just hard to believe that we are now older than most, if not all, of the faculty and administration at that time. To check, I contacted the Diocese and was informed that he was born in 1932. That didn't seem possible and they referred me to The Globe which has extensive records in its archives. The person there informed me that the Fr. A.J. Elbert who was superintendent of Heelan from 1964 to 1978 was born in 1932. That means he was 37 in 1969!!! In other words, the bald guy with the fringe of white hair around the sides was about half the age we are today! That tells you something about the perception of a teenager. I hate to think what the Heelan students today would think of us if we happened down the hallways. After the 40th reunion, Mike Ross reminded me of a story from 1969 that involved Cowboy which Mike thought was one of the funniest things that ever happened. Needless to say it was at my expense. Anyway, Mike and I were talking last week and decided that now would be a good time to share it since Cowboy isn't around to be embarrassed by it, leaving only me. Mike said he might relegate it to Randy because he was also present, and Randy is much more likely to embellish the story. So, I hope you all enjoy it. Once again, I hope you all have a good time, and I hope to not see any roses appear on this website for a long, long time.

Tom, Sorry to hear that you will not be able to make the 50th reunion. You will be missed but I'm sure your name will come up during the weekend, especially with the St. Joe gang. Hope you are doing well healthwise and hope to see you at a future reunion. Best wishes!  Joe Conlon

Just a note to thank the Reunion Comittee for all their hard work and my classmates who made our 50th Reunion so enjoyable. It was great seeing everyone and sharing old stories all weekend. My four years at Heelan  were some of the best times of my life and can be directly attributed to the friendships established with many of you from 1965-1969. Although we didn't realize it at the time, we had the best of everything, whether it was cars, music, etc.. Those truly were the days, my friends...   Go Crusaders!      Joe Conlon

Hello classmates!  Jon Hittle asked me to help him contact as many of us as possible to start a prayer chain for his friend, our classmate, Dan Sypersma, who has battled Covid and has been in and out of the hospital for the past five weeks and now has double pneumonia.  Danny can't sleep and he's in a very weakened condition .  I'm also asking for rosaries.  Thank you everyone for these much needed prayers.
