Now that we are getting a larger number of our classmates here, I just want to post a couple of things:

1)Thanks to everyone for updating your profiles so far!

2)Thanks to those of you who are helping by directing our classmates to this site. It is going to help to have us all in one place.

3)Please continue to email us with any names that are misspelled or omitted by mistake.

4)If you see someone's name on the CLASSMATE PROFILES page, and there are no icons next to it, then we have NOT heard from them yet. That means we have no email for them in this system. Anyone who has any of the icons next to their name has actually come to this site to put their own information in. So, if you want to email them or anything, you may do so through this site. It is very easy. Hopefully this will help you each to know where we are at with finding people. Any ideas in this area will be greatly appreciated!

5)Several of you have asked about donating prizes or money for doorprizes. Basically, anything you want to do for that will be acceptable. If you have promotional items for your company, or ideas of your own, feel free to let us know about them and we will use them.

A lot of people will be attending the reunion from out of town and you'll need to eat. Here are some of my favorites, and most are reasonably priced:

For breakfast I suggest Archie's Diner at 723 W 7th St. It's only open Saturday and Sunday mornings, and only has one employee, Laurie, Archie's widow. She takes the orders, makes the food, and buses the tables, so it's not the fastest place, but it's worth the wait. Also, this reduces overhead, so her prices are extremely reasonable. She makes the best pancakes I've ever had. I keep accusing her of putting morphine in the pancakes because they just are too wonderful to not have some sort of powerful chemical enhancement. Definitely try the pancakes.

If you're into burgers, the best burger in the region is at Bob's Bar in Martinsburg Nebraska. It's a bit of a drive, but it's well worth it. The burgers are huge and a single side order will easily feed two or more people. I'm known for eating a lot, and I only ever eat one burger. They're not just big, they're also good. They are the standard by which I judge burgers. I love them so much that I wrote up Bob's Bar for Roadfood.com. There are other things on the menu, but who cares, get the burger.

After you go to Bob's bar in Martinsburg, swing by Ponca State park. It's nice. I like it there. It's a good place to let a burger digest. It's also a good place to camp.

If you want a good burger that's a bit closer, try Sugar Daddy's on the strip in North Sioux City. It's not as good as Bob's Bar, but nothing really is.

The best Asian food in Siouxland is at the Thai Laos Kitchen Restaurant 1215 Dakota Ave in South Sioux City next to the Dairy Queen. Really. I've been to them all at least twice and nothing else can compare. Even their steamed rice is better than anyone else's. Definitely try the coconut soup. I'm not normally a soup fan, but the coconut soup is amazing. Also, the fresh rolls are the best appetizer (they aren't on the menu but they do make them and they are really good). Usually my wife and I order the fresh rolls and coconut soup as appetizers and then also order entrées which results in a big meal. Everything is good there, but don't forget the coconut soup. It's a little more expensive; soup, fresh rolls, and 2 entrées runs ~$30.

The Gardener Cafe in the Sioux City Art Center is probably the healthiest most organic and generally ethical restaurant in Siouxland. Chef Paul is fabulous. My wife and I feel so good about his food that we had him cater our wedding reception. The is the most expensive restaurant in my recommendations running ~$20/person.

If you're looking for Mexican food, I suggest La Juanita at 1316 Pierce St. You can see them preparing the food behind the counter, which is always reassuring. Oh, and it tastes so good and reasonably priced. I have several cheap foody friends who love La Juanita.

For dessert, try Edgars in Elk Point (15 min drive from Sioux City). It's a a real old-fashioned ice cream parlor that's been there forever. By now they've got it all figured out and it's all good.

Or, try the Blue Bunny parlor in Le Mars (30 min drive from Sioux City). Blue Bunny ice cream tastes much better at the factory store then anywhere else.

A lot of these options involve a bit of driving, so stop by the Firehouse Market at 1211 5th Street (just off Floyd) and pick up a loaf of blue cheese bread to snack on. Denis makes it fresh every day with no preservatives. All his breads are fabulous, but the blue cheese is his most popular. Since it has no preservatives it doesn't keep well, but that's not a problem. Usually when I buy a loaf, it's mostly gone before I get home.

The Firehouse Market also hosts the farmers market Saturday morning with all local organic food, and some wonderful confections. It's also just a wonderful little market if you have any grocery shopping to do, especially if you're a locavore.

So after you've eaten, you might want to take a tour of the historic Orpheum Theater. You can arrange tours by calling 712-279-4800. It doesn't cost much and all the proceeds go to the Orpheum restoration project. Be sure to request a tour from Joe. He's one of the maintenance people so he wont be dressed fancy, but he gives the best tours.

You might be wondering about Siouxland Nightlife. I'm a camper so for me nightlife has something to do with raccoons, but I have a feeling that for most people it has something to do with getting drunk in bars. I know very little about that but my more alcoholic friends assure me that Historic Fourth Street is the place to be.

I hope you all have a joyful time in Siouxland.

Hey all,
If I can pull this off I'd like to invite everyone to a 1988 vs. 2008 basketball game. Unfortunately we can't play in our old school building due to a major construction project taking place this summer. But we might be able to play at West Middle. I can get the freshman/sophomore 2008 squad together easy enough, but I need some 88ers who'd be interested. Corey Robinson, J.J., Gerald Sims, Terry Schrank, Marvin Triplet, John Iverson, and anyone who played at some point like Jamie Drake, Robert Whipple, Brian Rich, etc...let's get back together and run some vintage Hinrich Alaska Basic on these young pups.

Afterwards all players are invited to my place on West 3rd St. for some food and rehashing of the past--starting with why was it again that I didn't start over Corey Robinson? I'm almost over it now. Kidding.

Anyway, this would be fun and as a West High coach I need to raise some funds for the West High Athletic Dept.. There'd be a 3 dollar cover charge to the game--all proceeds going to the Cross Country and Basketball progams at West. I'm not sure the best time for the game, but whoever is running this reunion show, let me know so we can hopefully work this in.

Todd, I think your basketball game sounds like fun for anyone who wants to join in. Feel free to use this message forum to hash out the details, or email each other to get the discussion going. Any time that works for those that want to play should be fine...just try to keep in mind that some people may have planes to catch, etc...

By the way,,,your profile is just too funny! I had forgotten that you were a breakdancer too! I actually had forgotten that we had teams/groups of break dancers at ALL... but I do remember watching after school when we were going to West Jr, now that you jogged our memories. We just watched Kickin' It Old Skool this past weekend..

1988 vs 2008 BBall game WOW that would be awesome!
I would be willing to help out any way that I can,
like the leg work on making flyers/distributing them,
taking money, maybe doing some kind of concessions?
I will say that I have to draw the line at wearing my cheerleading skirt for myself and for the spectators.
Otherwise consider me available...Todd, I to work in the school system and have the summer off. well, besides a class at AEA here and there. Keep me posted!!!

Teri y Robin,

Fun to read your bios. Wow Teri, you became an artist and actually put food on the table with your art! That's huge!

Robin. Cheerleaders! That's an awesome idea! You'll have to bust out some of that "We're in Wolverine Country--So Beware" with kicks and etc...

Speaking of uniforms, I'll see if I can come up with any old West High b-ball uniforms. If I can find them, I'll try to talk all the 88ers into going retro.

Last night Terry Schrank called and he's contacting the team. I still haven't secured a place to play, but I'll post it here once I find a place to play. I'm also trying to find a referee to officiate the game. Any volunteers?

Teri, as far as time of day I'm thinking 3:00ish on that saturday afternoon. Hopefully it'd be late enough for people flying in to catch the game and early enough for us players to shower up after the game en route to Buffalo Alice.

Robin, once we get the time and place ironed out, if you want to make flyers to post around town I think that'd be a great idea. Do you think you could find the addresses of our (living) teachers and mail them a personal invitation? At half-time we could honor them somehow. Also since you're in the school system, maybe you could post the game on the sc public school's website. Since Lori Prochello(sp?) is in radio, maybe she could announce the starters and do play by play during the game.

Any bets out there as to who would win--88 or 08? It's a matter of oxygen really. If we get enough subs we'll run and gun 'em' down. (Brian Rich was the first I know of to coin the term--"run and gun." Anybody besides me ever notice that Brian Rich was always on the cutting edge of new popular sayings?) I'm placing my bet with the older and wiser 88ers--especially if Steve Evans shows up. I know he's an 89er, but close enough.

Great ideas Robin and Todd...
88 vs. 08.... I'm gonna have to place my bets on 88! Eighty-eight, eighty-eight, eightyeightyeightyeightyeightyeight!
Speaking of phrases ...maybe we can get Jessie Jackson back here to help us "Shoot for the Stars!" :)ha!
So, Todd, do ya think your knee could hold up enough to bust a few moves at intermission?

Mike:

I tried to pencil in a 7/26/08 date and the midget was booked. May I trade for a tranny and clown?

Father McClanahan should be pleased with the donations raised...

Tina Blackburn (Benton)

Okay...wait a minute. What about us "girl jocks" participating in the b-ball game somehow? I may be good for one time up and down the floor, can't promise anything more than that. AND Robin since you mentioned the cheerleading......you have to do something! We don't want anyone getting hurt though!

Terry Schrank

It all should be fun. I dont know how well the basketball game will go. Todd maybe Corey will let you start. Your jumper was always better looking then his. Even today..sorry Rob. I officially started working out for this thing. The last time I played ball (a year ago) I broke my arm playing with my son and his friends. My famous last words were "I played at Briar Cliff for three years what can these kids do to me?" Well I hope I dont break anything.

Terry and I agreed I shouldn't bust any moves at half-time. But what about all you drill team girls? You should do a half-time routine.

Tina, you're welcome to play. I don't have any girl sized basketballs, but I'm sure that won't affect your awesome jumpshot.

Speaking of which, Terry I forgot, how much do I owe you for that compliment about my jumpshop in comparison to Corey Robinson's? Wasn't it a free beer?

I've contacted all the powers that be about this game and I have nothing official to report, but it all looks like a go.
