Ann Hensley (Sarrafzadeh)

I have been procrastinating about posting to everyone, but Larry's lovely message prompted me to respond.  I also was very disappointed to miss the May celebration, but I've finally carved out some time to get back to Daisy and am really hoping that at least some of you would be willing to meet up again at the Blue Ribbon on a Friday night while I'm there.  I'll be coming in on July 22nd, so Friday the 24th would be great for me.   If that doesn't work, we could shoot for Friday, the 31st as well.  I'm suggesting Friday night because the Blue Ribbon is closed on weekends.  If anybody is able to make one of those two nights, I'd be really happy.   If any of you have another idea about how we could get together again, please throw it out to the group.  Hoping to see you all soon,

Ann Hensley

Ann Lorraine,
I can surely do either one of those Friday nights, let's decide on one so we can post on here and FB page
also..I know Tina, Benny and some more classmates would love to meet...if we have to do a Sat. evening instead of a Fri. we can meet at the restaurant on Soddy lake...let me know what works for you..I thought you had visited in June, so happy you will be in SD in this month

Jennifer Skiles (Crawley)

Dear Classmates

I wanted to thank all that have given to our 1968 class memorial fund.  This spring we gave a donation to the Soddy Daish High School Alumni Association of $250.00 (in memory of classmates that had died since our last reunion) and that was combined with other contributions to make up one of the three $1,000 scholarship they award each year.  I thought you might enjoy reading the thank-you note from the senior who received the scholarship that included our funds. . .

"I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to your organization for selecting me for your scholarship.  It means more than anyone will ever know because it's a brick in the foundation I am laying for my future.  One of my generation's largest mistakes is believing we do not need to rely on someone or reach out for help, but I am a through believer in support and dependency.  However you haven't dictated my life in anyway, nor will I let anything influence any of my decisions I consider justified, rather you have created a way to cross the bridge I am soon to come to.

I plan to pursue a career in film.  It is a trade not widely recognized for its versatility in the economy we live in.  Most believe film only pertains to movies and major productions, but it actually covers all things commercial, domestic, and entertaining.  Film graduates can work by shooting live events, creating a documentary for the general public or private use, cover conventions and get-togethers, or shooting privately for entertainment and practice.  There are many things that film and video experts can do to benefit others around them, because in the end it's all about the audience.

My fascination with Film began my sophomore year and expanded from a hobby into a passion in a matter of days after my teacher recognized my abilities with a camera and its supporting software.  Since then I have directed several productions for the school, and directed in timed film festival where my crew and I won 9 awards which included: Best Director, Best Film, Best Sound Design, Best Cinematography, and some other awards.  I have also recently became an Adobe Certified Associate in Premier Pro, which is a NLD (Non-Linier Editing) program.  I plan on becoming a certified expert in the summer of this fall.

I'm telling you all of this because I want you to know what you have invested in because it is an honor.  Film majors are not as widely recognized amongst other career choices, and are usually looked over in terms of scholarships and grants.  Your organization is part of something special to me, and for that I am eternally gratefully.

Thank you.  Isaiah Jones"

The teacher who recommend him for consideration of a scholarship spoke very highly of him, his character, his ability and his determination.  I thought I could read some traces of determination that reminded me of some kids I knew about 47 years ago!  Thought you would like to know this, and I wanted to thank all of you who have generously given to the memorial fund.  I try to keep up with the deaths of our local classmates.  Pat Poe Valentine and others are very good to notify me when they hear of anything.  I think you will agree with us that all of them happen too soon!  Hope to see ALL of you at our 50th high school reunion, and that is not so very far away.  One other thing I wanted to tell you, Mr. & Mrs. Smithson always give us a donation for our memorial fund each time they join us for a party.  They truly do think of us as their "children", and like to be included in our events.

Thanks to Jennifer for passing on the information about the fund. We always depended on Jennifer in the band and she's still as responsible as ever. Thanks also to Larry and Pat for following up with me on the delayed get-together.  Sounds like several others may be able to join us as well.  I've seen Benny and Jody a couple of times in recent years when I was in town and I'm looking forward to spending time with as many of you as can make it. Shall we say Friday, the 24th at 5:00 at the Blue Ribbon?  If that's too early, someone suggest a later hour.  I think they close at 8, and I want to have time for plenty of conversation.  I'm sure Diane would be happy to give us some space in the back room. As some of you know, The Blue Ribbon used to be my Grandaddy's gas station and I spent a lot of time in that back room when it was the grease pit.  If you can make it on the 24th at 5:00, please respond to the forum or to my personal e-mail (annsarrafz@yahoo.com). That way, Thursday morning after I get to town, I can let Diane know how many of us to expect.  See you next week,

Ann Lorraine

Friday, the 24th at 5:00 at the Blue Ribbon. I'll be there. Payment-who and when?

Ann Hensley (Sarrafzadeh)

I imagine that there will only be a small group of us and that Diane Cosper (owner) can accommodate us as she does her regular customers on Friday night.  Pat, don't you agree that we should all just pay our bills individually to Diane?  If you'll keep me apprised of the numbers, I'll speak to Diane early next week to let her know that we want to reserve the back room.  Mom needs me earlier, so I'm coming in this Saturday night instead of next Wednesday.

Ann Hensley (Sarrafzadeh)

I just spoke with Diane and told her that, so far, we have only about 6 or 7 coming.  She said Friday night is busy but she can handle that number.  If it rises, I am to update her so she can make plans to accommodate us.  Am I right that we are only 6 so far?

Me, Larry and his wife, Pat, Benny and Tina

I hope that more of you will join us, so please let us know you're out there.  Diane asks that we park in the Sun Bank parking lot near the Blue Ribbon as her lot gets crowded.  Looking forward to seeing everyone,

Ann Lorraine

Hey Pat and Ann, please include me in the Friday night count at the Blue Ribbon.  I don't think Don will be able to join us, so just count on me!

Just to confirm with those who plan to come tomorrow night, 7/24:  We will meet at 5:00 at the Blue Ribbon---early to avoid the Friday night rush there.  It looks like there will be about 15 of us and Diane will put us in the back room.  She asks that everyone park in the adjacent bank parking lot.  See you there!

So sorry to hear this.  Donna was such a sweet person from what I remember from our school days.  My deepest sympathy and prayers for her family.

Thank you Pat for posting this.

Ann Hensley (Sarrafzadeh)

Yes, Pat.  We all appreciate your keeping us together.  I saw Donna briefly a year or so ago when I took Mom to the oncologist.  She seemed preoccupied, so we didn't talk much.  I wonder if she was ill herself at that time. I won't be in Daisy until just before Christmas, so if any of you who attend the funeral could please convey my condolences to her family, I would appreciate it.

I'm so sorry to hear about Donna too.  It's been awhile since I've seen her, but I was close to her in elementary through high school.  In fact she was a bridesmaid at my wedding 47 years ago.  I'm praying for her family.

repalcment and got pneumonia...So sad...I also went to Daisy Elementary through High Scool with Donna.
She was so sweet and will be missed.

Thank you Pat. May she rest in peace in the glory of God! May God bless her family and friends with peace and contentment. We know that the only one that could open the book of life, the innocent lamb of God,  saw her name therin. She is and always will be missed and never forgotten.  Glory to God.
