Although Damon did not attend SBEC after 1986, he was one of our dear friends for many years. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in Hernando on his way home one night, sometime in 1990-91. One of my favorite memories of Damon was a trip that we took with Broadway in 8th grade to Hardy, Ar to canoe on the Spring River. I somehow managed to be in the canoe with Adam Record, and Damon--well, I say I was IN the canoe with them, but I don't believe that we were actually IN the canoe that often on that trip! I don't know which one flipped us the most, but I know we were in that freezing cold water most of the day!! (and Damon swore ALL day long that snakes were falling out of the trees on his head while Adam and I were not looking!) Damon also took me on one of my only rides on a motorcycle--some of you might remember those months that I lived over at my grandmother's house in Whitehaven while our house was being built in Summerwood. He lived just two streets over, so stopped by one day and INSISTED that I take a ride with him--I don't believe I ever got on the back of another one after that experience that day! :) He was a very fun-loving, sweet spirit that I still hold a very special place in my heart for-such a wonderful friend, that is truly missed! I'm glad you added Damon to our memory list. He was very special to me as well. He ,Deon and i were good friends. Actually , Damon was the first guy i ever made out with. We were 12 or 13 and we were at church camp.We snuck off in the woods and a little while later there was a search party headed up by my brother Edd looking for us. It was a little embarrassing. Nevertheless, I'll never forget Damon and that country accent. He was a very great guyMw
That's so funny. Damon is also the first person I ever made out with...and the weird part was that it was also in the woods. I see a pattern.Chris Graham
Sometime in the past year I learned a guy I work with was an attending paramedic they day Damon had his accident. As it turned out he not only was a paramedic but also a close personal friend to Damon. Shortly before the accident he was with Damon and a few other friends on the square in Hernando. He was off duty but told me when the call went out for a serious motorcycle accident close to his location he already knew it was Damon. He told me he arrived first but there was nothing he could do. Damon had already passed.I told him the thing I always admired about Damon was if you were a friend to him, you had a friend in him and he agreed. I still remember Damon's country accent, the loud sighs and brushing off the seat before he sat down. Sitting down in a chair was seemingly quite an ordeal. lol Other than those I knew before coming to SBEC, Damon was one of the first to make me feel welcome after I came to SBEC.

I'm also glad to see the memorial to Damon. I had forgotten about his wiping off a seat before sitting! I also remember him coming in on Mondays and blowing/coughing up smoke rings out of his mouth from his weekend "smokes".I know he and I didn't get on very well for the most part, and for years the rift was really quite violent, but for those who may not have known, Damon and I did patch things up in the end. We agreed to be friends right before he left the school. I was very sorry to read about the accident.
