Anything outdoors (road & mtn biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, hot springing, canoeing & just walking the dog).
Progressive politics & thought.
Strategy board games.
Dancing. Dance early, dance often, and take every opportunity to dance dirty!
Lived in the Coos Bay (sunny southern coast) (current, ~19yrs), Portland (20yrs), Salem (2yrs), college in Walla Walla (5yrs).
Sales & technical support to start, got my MBA in short order, had several marketing and general management jobs, was laid off one too many times, and began selling happiness in the form of board games (paper & cardboard), a long strange trip and outgrowth of my life-long hobby, that has lasted 31 years now.
Am currently transitioning to that 3rd & final stage of life, what we call retirement. The general pattern I expect will be: Biking, then as I age eBiking, then settling into a home life with a bright red rocking chair, wrap-around porch with a view & a gin & tonic, then finally cremation.
Alas, I won't be able to make the big to-do this year as I will be heading out for a bike tour beginning in Tucson to the Mexican border in New Mexico then on up to Jasper AB in Canada. Remember that freedom we had during high school with limitless time to do what we want? It's finally here again!
And that is the essence of retirement as I see it: doing what I want 24/7, and living life with integrity one mile one day & one beer at a time. And now, finally, for the first time since college, having the TIME, energy and resources to enjoy it.
I'm on the cusp of retirement and, alas, I'd planned last year a biking trip that conflicts with this reunion, so can't go. Like to say "hi" to the few friends I still maintain some tenuous contact with: Bink, Shelley, Sharon. And of course others from the class of '75 or any other class that show up; our high school reunions have always been much fun. Sorry I can't make this one.
