Krissi Taylor (Smith)

Hi everyone so sorry I couldn't make the reunion but I have been spending alot of my time at the hospital. My husband newly wed I might add has been having multiple mini strokes and we are waiting to hear if it might be MS. Other than all the health issues things are going fine here in Dayton (West Carrollton). I just found out that I'm going to become a grandmother for the third time. One is biological the other two I have addopted their parents some where along the way. But we all know blood doesn't make family. It would be nice to see you all sometime soon we shouldn't have to wait til the next reunion. Until then I wish everyone love and happiness for the Christmas season and especially the new year!!

Congratulations on grandmotherhood Krissi! And good luck with those tests your husband is undergoing. I'm hopeful that they'll find the source of his episodes to be something completely treatable. Hugs!

Talk about a small world, I fell on the ice over a week ago and my parents have been taking care of me since Christmas. (I was in a BAD way). Anyway, my parents said they were going out to dinner with another couple and had been planning to go to the other couple's house but because they were caring for me- they all came back to my parent's house.

The other couple was none other than Krissi Taylor's Dad
and his new wife!! Small world! I asked him how you were doing, Krissi. :)

(then I hobbled back to bed) Wild!

Hey again everyone. Sorry to hear about all the tripps to the hospital and slips etc...Heidi hope you are feeling better and Krissi I hope all is looking better for your husband.
Sorry I am going to go back to all that political crap but I seem to be the only one on this side of things so I figured I should respond. Would have been earlier but with Christmas, working full-time, and taking care of a 19 month old and my husband it seems I have little time to pee let alone anything else. Kidding about my husband (sorta - ladies u know what I am talking about.) :-)
I am glad we have had the opportunity to put these things out there and I hope with my weak explaining skills I am able to help you understand the other view points. And like Carrie I don't necessarily agree with every issue I might be trying to explain but I wanted to try and describe a viewpoint.
First, the comment about people who bomb abortion clinics by me was supposed to be sarcastic. I believe they are extremists and murderers.
I think the confusion about where Republicans sit on the issue of giving money to those in need is in the difference between "help" and "support". you notice that people always say I am tired of supporting lazy people who don't want to get off their @#@! and work...etc.. Helping people in need is something most people want to do, especially those church going people mentioned previously. It used to be that people were ashamed of taking money from others or the gov't. They had too much pride to take charity, they would rather work any odd job they could find so they didn't take a hand-out. Things are not that way anymore. Too many people are looking for a hand-out. They think they have a "right" to the same things so and so down the street has but they don't want to "earn" it. They confuse that with the right to have the equal opportunity to have those things. Everyone should be given the opportunity (and yes I realize historically that hasn't been done), what you do with it is up to you. I hear too much...I'm not working at McDonald's, I'm not working picking up trash, I don't like doing that job, etc... People are even saying things as stupid as "we need immigrants to work those jobs Americans won't". What do you mean Americans won't. That is pathetic...if you need to feed your children you do what you have to. Of course those same people don't seem to have any trouble selling drugs to "take care of their families". Why should I give you money, when you don't want to improve your situation with it? Are there people out there who have tried, who work hard everyday, who spend their money as best they can trying to get into a better situation and still couldn't make it...Heck ya! Do some people just hit hard times. Yea! Do those people deserve my help, yes undoubtlably. But I am sorry to say too much of our society today just takes advantage of what ever they can get for free. For example, there was a famous rapper (went blank on his name) who was once seen in a food stamps line when he was making good money. His explaination on why he was there "its free money, why wouldn't you come get free money". Also, there are still people living in hotels (on us) after Katrina - who have admitted they haven't bothered looking for a job 'cause it is too easy to sit at the hotel and live and eat for free. These are just examples, the point is the welfare system has become a way of life for people, not a means to an end. It is time to stop throwing money at a system that is broke. It is nieve to think that if we give the government more money they will use it to help people, they will fix the system, they will improve anything. It is more likely they will continue to run a messed up system and give themselves a raise for doing so. It is kinda like this idiocy of throwing money at these banks and the auto industry (only american auto's it seems) after they ran their business poorly and expecting them to put the money where it could help the economy and the people of this country. You all know where that money went. (And Carrie..believe me the Republicans were complaining about the bailout but you won't here it on regular TV) The system needs fixed. Changes need to be made: for example - Free-loaders need to be tossed off. no money should be given without drug tests (we have to get them to get paid at our jobs), if they don't pass help should be provided, then they could submit for assistance again. People on welfare shouldn't have cell phones, and cable, xbox360 and other luxury items (yes these are luxury items). All kinds of people go without these things everyday so they can support their families. Very cheap home phonelines are provided already, cheap cars are provided already, cheap or free housing is provided already, food is provided already. Training is provided (but not well manned or used) for jobs. Free Classes should be required on how to properly budget your money, classes should be required to get a GED if the person never graduated or further education if needed. Child Care should be top priority. Case workers should be provided to help people through the process to get on their feet, and they should be paid well enough so they would actually stay in those positions. It is all about HELPING someone not SUPPORTING them. In general, if you get free money their should be some requirements to get it. If they stop supporting people who are using the system, because there are more of them than you would think, they would have the money to truly help people who need it. Is it a hard stance in some cases yes, should people be given a chance to adjust to the changes before you pull the plug, yes, but will putting new wheels on a broke down car get you anywhere, not really. Looks pretty but doesn't accomplish much.

And we keep talking about the responsibility of the rich to carry this nation, to fix all that is wrong. Why isn't it the entirety of this nation that should have the responsibility. Money is not always the answer. Individual responsibility and hard work by all is more of the concept that I believe Republicans live by. It is somewhat assumed that people who are rich did not earn it, did not give up things along the way to get where they are today, don't give a lot anyway, and don't have to pay much in taxes ('cause of Bush's tax break). The truth is many rich people earned it (some did not), and did not have some of the things they wanted while building that wealth. And many of these people give millions of dollars to charities and foundations every year. Some may do it to avoid the HIGH tax rates on the wealthy, some may do it for a legacy, others may do it just because they want to give. Don't you think they should have some choice as to where some of their money is distributed rather than you or me deciding for them. And will those charities no longer get that money 'cause it went to the gov't to supposedly (no guarantee) help the needy. Do they have more of a responsibility to help society financially? Possibly. Should they try to help those in need? Sure. Should they be REQUIRED to give extra because you believe it is their civil responsibility? That is where our difference lies. Do I believe they should give more...sure...do I believe the government should REQUIRE them to pay more...how is that fair either. We are already set up in a tax system that pretty much does not require any taxes to be paid for those in the lowest income brackets. In fact, you can make quite a bit a money before you don't get a refund. And the tax system is set up so that the more money you make the greater your tax bracket. So....not only do you pay more simply because a percent of a lower dollar amount is quite a bit lower than a percent of a higher dollar amount (ex. 10% of 1,000 vs. 100,000) but you pay a higher percentage as well (10% vs 40%). In the tax system itself, those that make more money, inherently already pay more taxes. Especially since those in the lower brackets are given all kinds of credits to decrease their taxable income to $0. The Earned Income credit for instance. So the question is, when is taking from the rich and giving to the poor enough? That is socialism... At what dollar amount will it be enough for people? And how is it fair that such a high percentage of their income goes to the government? So the rich already support this nation, they carry us on their backs everyday, they pay 80 - 90% of all taxes paid but we still want more. We need to spend time fixing the system locally and nationwide and quite giving more and more control and our money to the government.
Ok - this is way too long. That is what happens when it takes so long to respond there is too much to respond to. I will quit for now.

All right... wading in here... (hi everyone).

As to the slant of the media - Pew Research did a study of the major media during the election and came up with some interesting numbers.

the Project for Excellence in Journalism - from
the Pew organization.

A summary:

FOX - 40% negative on Obama, 25% positive
40% negative on McCain, 22% positive

MSNBC - 14% negative on Obama, 43% positive
73% negative on McCain, 10% positive

CNN - 39% negative on Obama, 36% positive
61% negative on McCain, 13% positive

General Press - 29% negative Obama, 36% positive
57% negative McCain, 14% positive

Pew Research Study

On to the issue of the war in Iraq. People (Media & Democrats especially) seem to forget that it was the Democrats who voted AYE on the authorization to use force, simliarly it was a Democratic President throughout the 90s who made the VERY SAME claims about Iraq & Saddam Hussein, the only difference being that Clinton would do a few air strikes and then move on to something else. Bush decided, in light of 9/11 and Iraq's history of supporting terrorism to take definitive action. Not ONE Democrat questioned the intel... not one intel agency worldwide questioned the data. Everyone believed Iraq had WMDs, everyone believed Iraq was developing MORE WMDs, everyone agreed that it was in violation of the Cease Fire. The disagreement was about what should be done.

On the issue of taxes - Danea did a great job, but a few notes to add, from research done by several organizations on the IRS tax data...

In the 2000 Tax Year (paid in 2001, before the Bush Tax cuts) - the top 5% paid 56.47% of the taxes, the bottom 50% paid 3.91%.

In the 2006 Tax Year, with all Bush's tax cuts in effect, the top 5% paid 60.14% of the taxes and the bottom 50% paid 2.99%.

Tax Foundation research of IRS data

Clearly, despite the Media spin (yes, left wing)... the tax cuts were not disproportionately slanted for the rich - they paid a larger share of the tax burden than before the tax cuts.

As to Obama's tax plans - he had a constantly moving target for where he was going to tax... first it was $250K and up... by a week before the election, it was down to $150K. And his 'spread the wealth around' comment is exactly what the Tax Code is NOT intended for. The purpose of taxes is to raise money for federal government programs. Over 60% of the money the federal government receives goes to Social Security, Medicare, HUD, and other social welfare programs. Social Security & Medicare EACH spend almost $2 Billion dollars a day (one year of SS OR Medicare is twice what was spent in Iraq in 6 years).

Thanks Heidi! I've been meaning to update it for awhile, but with my stepdad in hospital since Nov. 17th, all my free time is spent there. Couldn't go today ... not feeling well ... and got tired of laying around (having dizzy spells ... they suck) ... anywho ... thanks for noticing the changes!

Thanks Danea & Willie for stepping out of the "politically correct" and responding from the heart... I appreciate that ;)

On a more lighter note... I am hitched! Yea! Guess I need to update my profile again...

Hope everyone had a great holiday season!

Just looked up Justin Chambers on iMDB

Very cool! I had no idea he was famous... Although I do remember watching the movie The Wedding Planner and thinking... "he looks really familiar"
LOL... (Geez, am I out of it)
I do remember being Jason's girlfriend for a few short weeks in junior high.. ha ha... and sneaking outside the school (Indian Valley) for a smooch or two... They were both pretty fun to hang out with. Justin was entertaining and Jason was very sweet.

That man must be a good kisser on film because it sounds like he got a LOT of practice growing up! I can't say that I ever got to experience his lips! :)

Krista through Matt Sprague has followed Justin's career for years. It was wild to see all his print ads and modeling work. He was pretty big in the modeling world in the 90's!

Yeah, I remember walking into the Limited and seeing his pictures all over the store!

I am pretty sure Justin began his career in modeling when he got "discovered" while visiting Matt in Europe. But that is just what I heard years ago, who knows.

Danea if that story is true that would be off the chain.

That means Matt could play himself if they ever make a tv movie about the rise of Justin Chambers. If Justin didn't want to play himself they could ask his brother Jason!! It's just crazy enough to work!!!

Don't quote me on this because I have a TERRIBLE memory!
But yes, I believe Matt was living in NYC and invited Justin to come there. I'm pretty sure Matt was involved somehow. Too bad MATT doesn't read this! He could tell us what happened. :)

Ok so they are releasing a remake of Friday The 13th on Feb 13th. JT and I always got a shitload of people togather when we were kids and went and saw all the new F13 movies. I remember my car being crammed with deweys, Tiffners, Gowers, Tropps, Ramseys, Wunders and Peters!

Is anyone going to see the new Friday The 13th? Did you guys outgrow all that mess? Am I just hella inmature?

I'm trying to get a huge group of my friends to go see it here in ATL just like old times. I have a commitment from 4 people. Sigh......

Ann Hattal (Parks)

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, 'Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday'? He must really be a 'nerd'.

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running towards him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them in the grass about ten feet from him...

He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said 'Those guys are jerks; they really should get lives.'

He looked at me and said, 'Hey thanks!'

There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived . As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to a private school before now. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be pretty cool kid.

I asked him if he wanted to play a little football..with my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I like him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, 'Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!' He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends..when we were seniors we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor and I was going for business on a football scholarship..

Kyle was valedictorian of our class. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.

Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jeolous! Today was one of those days.

I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, 'Hey, big guy, you'll be great!'

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.

'Thanks,' he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began

'Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends....I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them.'

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told about the first day we met.

He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.

He talked of how he had cleared out his locker so his mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.

He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

'Thankfully, I was saved.

My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable...'

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us about his weakest moment.

I saw his mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.

Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions......

With one small gesture you can change a person's life.

For better or for worse.
