I attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut, in my junior and senior years of high school. I attended Sarah Lawrence College, studying theatre, international relations and Italian primarily. I spent my junior year in Rome. After college, I came to Washington to study interpreting and translation at Georgetown University.
My principal career began as a Romance language (French, Italian and Spanish) translator for the Department of State. I subsequently served as Deputy Director and then Chief of Translating with the Office of Language Services, which provides interpreting and translating support to the State Deaprtment, White House and other Federal agencies.
I am currently writing event coverage for The Georgetowner and The Downtowner newspapers as well as a recent blog, thegeorgetowndish.com.
I am involved in the arts and animal welfare causes and serve on a number of committees including the Washington Ballet, National Museum of Women in the Arts and Arts for the Aging. I am also a board memer of the Wellness Community - Greater DC which provides no cost support for cancer patients and their caregivers and also the Forum Theatre.
I was married in the early 70's to an Austrian in Jamaica.
In l977 I married Collins Bird, a hotelier who at the time operated The Georgetown Inn. We had a marvelous marriage and I sadly lost him to leukemia in 2000.
