Thank you very much for finding and posting the obituary for Kristal Nelson (Treadway).
It's wonderful how memories can be triggered by any of the senses ... perhaps by viewing Dad's 8mm movie of yet another kid's birthday party .... or the feel of a scatchy old woolen scarf for Minnesotan winters ... or the unmistakeable scent of grandma's mid-century Estee Lauder "Youth Dew" perfume ... or the taste of something just like the pizza burgers from the school cafeteria ... and sometimes from a song or sound ....
Kristal was a grade school friend in Woodbury ... our moms were part of a carpooling club to deal with the chore of driving us kids to various band events I remember one concert in sixth grade, the band played a popular song at the time by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass ... "Tijuana Taxi" ... a catchy tune that doesn't get much airplay now except on Easy Listening playlists. Kristal's musical instrument was one of the larger saxophones ... an instrument that is usually in the background and is rarely featured in the melody. But Tijuana Taxi was her chance to shine ... as the song famously includes some low "honking" sax notes ... arguably the best (and most fun) part of the song. Kris seemed a little bit nervous to be the unlikely soloist in that song but nailed it every time the band played it ... and she beamed a broad smile after each successful performance. Today I listened to Tijuana Taxi in memory of Kris ... and will remember her intellect, kindness, and achievements whenever I hear the song again...
Thanks Mark for the great post about Kristal. So sad to lose another classmate. I'm going to listen to that song again from Herb Albert. I began to pray for Krystal's family this morning when I read the sad news. By the way, I watched the documentary "The Wrecking Crew." I did not know that they did so much of all the music we listened to. Herb Albert is in the documentary.
What's super sad is they just signed up the Class Reunion one day prior 😢. We need to live each day the best we can. I can't imagine the loss her family must be feeling.
Dave, I think he did say that. He also spoke up on my behalf when others criticized me. He once told me that someone told him that if I had a brain I'd be dangerous. He said that he told that person that I am plenty dangerous without a brain. Such friends are a rare treasure!
It's not too late to Sign up for our 50th Class Reunion! See "Reunion Info" on this page for details! Pass the word! We are currently up to 150 attending, and still counting! Yay!
Also, instead of the next day Picinic, we thought it would make more sense to move that get together to a restaurant, being that we can't predict the weather, and it will save the expense of securing a Community Park as well. Once we have a location secured, we will post an update here! Make sure to let me know if you plan to attend ASAP so we can plan on location size! Hope to see you there!
Hi Jeanette! We will be having a smaller get together on October 12th. We have moved it to a restaurant option and will be posting updates here when we have a final location. You can always call me, or text at 651-253-7641. My email is ymn.fitnessplus@gmail.com. Glad you can make it!
Good morning fellow classmates! We are now less than a month away from our 50th class reunion! This is just a reminder to those who are sitting on the fence deciding whether to attend. Well humpty dumpty sat on a fence and look at what happened then! Ha! Even if you attend for a little while, I guarantee you will leave with a smile! Please know that if you just show up at the door we can only accept checks or cash as we do not have the ability to accept credit cards. There may be an ATM machine on site. A lot of time and effort has gone into putting this together. It will be a very fun social gathering with many surprises. And prizes!* see you there!!!
So. With ADD, when I'm with people like classmates, I lose control and might chase rabbits all around. Give me grace and hot sauce in case I catch a rabbit. I'm looking forward to working at not chasing and listening to the wonderful lives I know you have to talk about! See you there! P.s. Bring pictures of the children, grandchildren, greatchildren, and fish.
