Dennis it sounds like you and your wife did everything right. I am sure she is smiling and being your guardian angel!

Where did summer go!! I wish I could join the retired classmates. But I have to stay busy, so I may as well get paid.

Susan I hope they have found the right solution to ease or take away your pain. Stay safe and healthy everyone!

Dennis, congratulations on reaching a milestone where you can retire knowing you did well! Bob, your right, the summer is almost over (and I can't retire either for some reason), and we still didn't get those invitations to your house for hotdogs and hamburgers (what's a couple of hundred people for a picnic party?)! sad

Retirement is great, if it is your choice, not so much when you are forced into it.
Pain continues to get worse each day. Next step is to change my spine cord stimulator from a Nevro brand to a Boston Scientific one. That happens on the 12th of September. If that doesn't help, then the last thing to try is a pain pump. I guess when the opioid are delivered in liquid form directly where the pain is, it is more effective and they can use less. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and good wishes , it means a lot more than you can imagine. Blessings on all of you and your family!

Susan, I just pray that God will give your doctors wisdom in your treatment and you can find healing in your body. Chronic pain isn't anything fun to live with and I pray that you The answers you need and are painful

Hey you all! Happy end of the summer! I enjoy reading all of your posts! Regarding this thing called retirement, not quite there yet! I am still a full-time RN. I like to stay busy. my husband and I do take breaks and get away on a regular basis though. We were in Italy for most of October. We go back-and-forth to Phoenix to see our youngest son. Planning a trip to Israel next May. There are days though that not having such a demanding schedule sounds pretty nice!

Sue, I am also praying for wisdom for your specialists to help relieve and reduce your nerve pain. It's not a fun way to go day today like that! I am glad that you still get out and do things even though it's difficult. I hope you got all your goodies at the county fair!

Kim, sounds like you two have learned a rythm to enjoy life.

My cousin Keith is going next month to Israel. The first time he rented an apartment for his family, so not to be tourists. This time he is going with https://serveisrael.com/ . You pay to work while in Israel for the couple of weeks. Lots of different jobs, but a strange vacation. I went to Israel and Egypt in 1986 for seminary course.  The Shuttle exploded while I slept and we found out by a picture on a newspaper that a man was reading during breakfast in King David's hotel. I bet Israel has changed a lot since then.

Obituaries in Wausau, WI | Wausau Daily Herald

I'm sorry to again bring the news of the passing of another beloved classmate, Jennifer Olson Kareken.  I posted the obituary in the "In Memory" page.  She passed on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  Jennifer was one of the Pine Hill Elementary alumni, so that many of us have know her for nearly 60 years. She was a sweet lady, and will be missed.

Special thanks to Kathy Kullman for letting us know.

Sitting here looking at the picture of Jennifer takes me back to the band room at the senior high.  The trumpets sat in the row behind the saxophones - in my minds eye I can clearly see the room with Dale Howe next to me, and Jennifer in front of us - and Mr. Storti telling us to play "as if we were in love"!  Ha!  As if we (well, for certain I) had any clue!  Quite the trip in the Way-Back Machine!  😎

Last Saturday I attended the funeral of a good friend and thought about all the roles we play in our lives - child, parent, sibling, co-worker, friend, and the various relationships of extended family.  One person's passing has a ripple effect that extends all around them.  Even to classmates that you may not have known well on a personal level.  Rest In Peace Jennifer.

Praying for Jennifer's family; what a heartbreak to loose your spouse, mom/dad, or grandparent, and friend. Does anyone else live with regrets? Hoping to learn to love more and instead, I'm becoming a grumpy old man. Ouch!

The death of Jennifer has had an effect on me that I can't shake.  Having been a best friend to Dale Howe for more than half of his 39 years, I'm reminded that myself and my wife Liz (Scanlan) were quite often the accessory couple to Jennifer and Dale at many high school events.  We were good friends, to say the least.  My last memory of Jennifer was a class reunion maybe 15 years ago (give or take) where we talked for an extended period of time about everything (Dale, family, friends, kids, etc.).  I left the conversation looking forward to an update at some point in the future.  I've realized that high school friends are different than other friends in that they friends are for life.  Not seeing them for 15 - 20 years is not an impediment, in that you pick up where you left off and continue the friendship.  These people will always be my friends, whether I see them or not.  In my specific case, I've lost too many close friends that were too young (Jennifer, Dale, Mark Hill , Dick Jordan and probably others).  That's the hard part.

The good part, and one that I'm very grateful for, is that others, (Steve Hardy specifically) have taken it upon themselves to keep a website like this going and thriving.  I am aware of many who read the posts on this site and have never posted, yet appreciate knowing what is happening to our friends.  We need to let Steve and others know that their posts are appreciated. Keep up the good work!

Jon, well written! Thanks for reminding us. Time is getting shorter (meaning moving so fast as we get closer to the No Time Zone) and we need to say the things important to say! Thanks Steve, and others for posting!

Did Dale Howe comit suicide years ago? I could be wrong, he was into insurance I think.

I lived 1 block from where he worked in So. St. Paul. Did he Marry Jennifer?

Yvonne,

Dale committed suicide in April of 1996, shortly after turning 40.  He and his wife (not Jennifer) were in the beginnings of a divorce, and he was suffering from severe depression.

And thanks, Jon and Dave, and others, for your words of appreciation.

Thanks Steve for getting back to me about Dale. I saw him up to that day and he talked and

seamed normal. I wish I new the problems he was having. Maybe I could have helped him.

I'm always helping people that needs help. I also was a Home Health Aid. For 5 years.

Mike Stoner

Our classmate Mike Stoner passed away earlier today.

Mike served in the Active Army for 4 years in Germany.  He spent rest of his military career in the National Guard winding up as a company commander.

Mike worked for the Army as a civilian computer scientist after receiving a degree in computer science from UW Superior.  Mike was employed in Yuma AZ at Yuma proving ground.  Mike worked for me initially there; he went on to place commercial PC’s in to testing equipment.

Mike retired a few years back and lived alone.  He was a great help to his neighbors most of whom were part time residents staying for the winter.

Mike will be missed by many.

Mark Sampson
