Joy Olson Salpini

Life's been good. I joined the State Department and left Minnesota in March of 1982. I spent two years living & working in Stockholm, Sweden (1982-84) followed by two years in Manila, The Philippines (1984-86). I returned to the DC area where I worked on then Secretary of State Schultz' staff for three years (1986-89), followed by two years in the Office of East Asian and Pacific Affairs (1989-91).

I got married in 1987 and left the State Department in 1995 to raise my family. My husband joined USAID's foreign service in 1999 and we left the US again -- we spent four years in Bucharest, Romania followed by two years is Moscow, Russia. We returned to Washington for four years and then Dean, Cara (our youngest daughter) and I moved to Pretoria, South Africa for four years, while our older two daughter finished University in Virginia.

Dean, Cara and I moved back to the US in July 2013. We live just outside of Washington, DC, in Fairfax, VA. Dean and I are both retired from the USG and enjoying retirement in the DC area.

Our girls are all in the area, so we'll be here for the foreseeable future.
